Circle of Pestilence (5e Subclass)
Circle of Pestilence[edit]
Circle of Pestilence is a druid subclass that channels the forces of decay, disease, and corruption. Druids of this circle spread blight across the land, inflicting pestilence wherever they tread.
Rotting Affinity (2nd Level)[edit]
Upon joining the Circle of Pestilence at 2nd level, your spells and abilities become tainted by decay. Whenever you deal necrotic, poison, or acid damage, add an extra damage die of the chosen type (for example, a 1d6 becomes 2d6).
In addition, any creature that starts its turn within 10 feet of you and is suffering from a poison or disease effect has disadvantage on saving throws against poison damage.
Corrosive Hunt (6th Level)[edit]
At 6th level, your Wild Shape transforms you into a living embodiment of decay. While using Wild Shape:
- Your attacks deal an additional 1d6 acid damage.
- When you hit a creature with an attack, that creature must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your Wisdom modifier) or be poisoned until the end of its next turn.
- While poisoned by this effect, the creature takes 1d4 poison damage at the start of each of its turns.
Cast Plague (10th Level)[edit]
At 10th level, you gain the ability to curse an area with a virulent plague. Once per short or long rest, you can choose a point you can see within 90 feet and create a 30-foot radius sphere of pestilence that lasts for 1 minute. When a creature starts its turn within the sphere, it must make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your Wisdom modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failure, the creature takes 2d6 poison damage and becomes poisoned for 1 minute. Affected creatures can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending the poisoned condition on a success.
Avatar of Rot (14th Level)[edit]
At 14th level, you become the embodiment of decay. Your necrotic, poison, and acid damage is enhanced as follows:
- Damage rolls using these types now use double the number of damage dice (e.g., 1d6 becomes 2d6).
- Your damage of these types ignores all resistances and immunities.
- Any creature suffering from poison or disease takes double damage from your spells and attacks that deal necrotic, poison, or acid damage.
If you use your Cast Plague feature while in this form, the area of effect expands to a 60-foot radius, and creatures in the area have disadvantage on their saving throws against its effects.
Flavor and Notes[edit]
The Circle of Pestilence turns nature’s bounty into a curse of decay. Druids of this circle are not mere healers of the land but heralds of its eventual, inevitable decline.
