Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: The extra ability score choice makes the race far more versatile than the majority of other races. The immunity to flanking is to powerful for a racial and removes any sort of punishment for charging in, while there is a feat that provides the same bonus, racial traits are weaker than feats.

You can help D&D Wiki by better balancing the mechanics of this page. When the mechanics have been changed so that this template is no longer applicable please remove this template. If you do not understand balance please leave comments on this page's talk page before making any edits.

Chameleods are a mysterious race of small reptilian humanoids related with Lizardfolk famous for their ability to change their skin color, originally of an ancient forest destroyed centuries ago by a cataclysm. Now they live in little primitive villages in jungles and deserts and stalk in other humanoids's communities, being appreciated as spies, assassins, rogues, and guerrillers.

Play a Chameleod if you want...

  • To look with eyes in two separate ways.
  • To be a member of a race of unpredictable hunters.
  • To eradicate your opponents combining stealth and rage.
  • To be a member of a race that favors the Rogue, Ranger, Barbarian, Avenger, and Monk classes.

Physical Qualities[edit]

A Chameleod looks a small bulky lizardfolk with a solid crest on its back. Its mouth is large with a long retractable tongue used to catch preys. The eyes are big and prominent, with stereoscopic vision. The head is protected by a bony crest, and in some subspecies ornate with little horns or spikes. The tail is long and prehensile. Arms and legs are more or less equally long, and both have opposable thumb, making chameleons together with their tail excellent climbers. The skin is scaly and is able to alter its color, giving them great stealth.

Playing a Chameleon[edit]

Even if they can have another deity, all Chameleods worship the Chameleod god, the Great Invisible Observer. being many times slaves under other races who tried to erase their faith, Chameleods fought a lot for it, and this gave Chameleons a bad reputation to be fierce religious zealots. However, if a chameleod is respected about this it will not give problems. Chameleods share with their Lizardfolk relatives a curious attitude, but they can easily go fierce if harmed or annoyed.

Chameleod Characteristics: skillfull, agile, suspicious, ferocious, calm, proud, religious.

Male Names: Hollow Tooth, Cut Mouth, Broken Hands.

Female Names: Curled Tail, Smooth Skin, Round Eyes.

Chameleod Adventurers[edit]

Three sample Chameleon adventurers are described below.

Cut Mouth is a Chameleod Bard. Cut Mouth left home at a young age and set out to become a soldier in a large army however his small size and uncontrollable moods showed he was unable to be a adept warrior, however Cut Mouth had a silver tongue. Stories Cut Mouth would share with travelers somehow had an effect on them regardless of their content. Cut Mouth became a minstrel and there was power in his songs that he didn't fully understand, nor had he perfected they use. Cut Mouth no ventures far and wide honing his skills for better or for worse.

Hollow Tooth is a Chameleod Shaman. Hollow Tooth has some of the most beautiful skin coloration of all the Chameleods on his island. He is seated in a position of influence within the ruling family of Kamodean chieftains that also live among the Chameleods. Hollow Tooth has a strange aversion to sunlight and rarely travels in daylight without a cloak so many of his tribe are unaware of his vibrant colors. Hollow Tooth one day wants to become the chief of his tribe and supplant the Kamodean ruling class in an act of selfishness as the Chameleods seems content with the current state of affairs.

Curled Tail is a Chameleod Invoker. Curled Tail is considered to be the most beautiful of all Chameleod women. Her skin glistens with vibrant reds and yellows as well as whites, teals and violets. Her face is perfectly symmetrical and her tail has a delicate curl that male Chameleods cannot resist. Curled Tail seeks to leave her ancestral home to learn of religion, however her brother is involved with a group of adventurers that is less than noble. Her concerns for her brother keep her from achieving her own goals and she yearns for something more.
