Cannibal[edit]

One way or another, you have developed a taste for the repulsive: forbidden flesh. While cannibals are known to usually eat the flesh of their own kind, this does not restrict, say, a human who eats elves and dwarves from being called a detestable cannibal. There is a colorful amount of cannibals, with a mix of motive and method. Some cannibals see their diet as a ritual, and cannibalism being integral to it. Religious ceremonies sometimes involve sacrifices and a following feast of the sacrificed body. Other forms of this include cultures which have enshrined the act of cannibalism in their diet. This can be a practical application, as they eat the elderly, who do not have anymore perceived use in society. They have no qualms eating the weak as a way to fuel the strong.

There are always outlier cases. Cannibals can be deranged hedonists who simply developed a perverted taste for the forbidden. They do so because it satisfies them, regardless of society's views on it. Keep in mind that this background requires that cannibalism encompass a significant portion of a character's composition. It cannot simply be a trait, or it will not suffice as a complete background. Cannibalism maintains a firm central base for your character, and it heavily affected how they grew up and became who they are today. Perhaps they were thoroughly enlightened by their taste of forbidden flesh, which then made them incredibly driven for more. There are cannibals who see it as an art they wish to perfect, and so they travel in search of exotic tastes. Some cannibals are defined by a crucial moment in their life which involved cannibalism. They could have been trapped in a desperate situation which forced them to do the unthinkable, and it now remains a part of them forever.

So, what sort of cannibal is your character? Do they do it for the religious or ritual experience? How did they acquire this taste? Did someone introduce it to them? Do they still openly practice, or do they feast away from even the gaze of allies? Do they want to change, by any chance?

Feature: Those of a Different Taste[edit]

As those of a complex and niche taste preference, you and others with this persecuted diet have ways to get what you need. You have some shady contacts with dealers of forbidden comestibles. This can extend beyond just forbidden meat, and can cover parts of the underworld, including illegal substances like poison. Since this is largely with criminal undertones, these people will not provide for your lifestyle, but they can pass on information down the grapevine about illegal smuggling, dealing, and safe-houses.
