A fitting end for a would-be dragon slayer, wouldn't you say?
—Azruthrax, blue dragon necromancer

Dragons are creatures of primordial power, wielding magic from the dawn of creation, exemplified by their mighty breath weapons. Torrents of fire and furious lightning lay waste to entire towns and kill scores of the dragon's enemies, though exposure to such primal energies can have at times unpredictable results, transforming the victim into a breathscarred. Some dragons deliberately cultivate the ability to create breathscarred, particularly those with knowledge of necromancy.
Breathscarred are marked by terrible scars and burns over much of their bodies. Wisps of energy matching the type of their creator's breath weapon trail off from a breathscarred's joints and out from their mouths, resembling a puppet's strings. For instance, a breathscarred created by a green dragon would be shrouded in toxic fog, while a white breathscarred might be partially encased in ice.
While most breathscarred are created by chromatic dragons, it is possible for a metallic dragon to create a breathscarred.

Breathed into Existence. As part of their creation, breathscarred are forever entwined with the element of the breath which killed them, which grants them a breath weapon of their own and grants them total immunity to that element, to the point that attacking them with it only invigorates them. A breathscarred's breath weapon cannot create other breathscarred.
Breathscarred are compelled to obey the dragon that created them, though they do not serve mindlessly. Some breathscarred choose to rebel against their masters and search for allies or magic that can kill a dragon.

Variant: Breathscarred Damage Types

The breathscarred represented here was created by a red dragon. For a breathscarred created by a different type of dragon use the following (choose or roll a d10): 1-2, acid (black, Dex. save, 5 by 60 ft. line; copper, Dex. save, 5 by 60 ft. line); 3-4, cold (silver, Con. save, 5 by 60 ft. line; white, Con. save, 30 ft. cone); 5-6, fire (brass, Dex. save, 5 by 60 ft. line; gold, Dex. save, 30 ft. cone; red, Dex. save, 30 ft. cone); 7-8, lightning (blue, Dex. save, 5 by 60 ft. line; bronze, Dex. save, 5 by 60 ft. line); 9-10, poison (green, Con. save, 30 ft. cone). Fire Absorption and the breathscarred's immunity to fire damage become the dragon's damage type and the breathscarred's Fire Breath deals that damage type, requires a saving throw of the listed ability score and has the listed area.
