The brandistock apears to be a quarterstaff, except that it has a brass plate with three small holes at the top and a small button on the handgrip. The brandistock has two uses. It can be used just as a quarterstaff can, attacking with the ends of the staff. Anyone who is proficient with the quarterstaff can use a brandistock in this capacity. If a release on the staff is pressed, however, a metal spike similar to a spearpoint wil pop out of a hole in the top. It then deals piercing damage as a spear of the apropriate size category. Two smaller spikes also extend from the top. These serve to give the wielder a +1 bonuus on disarm attempts. Pressing the button to activate the spikes is a free action that does not provoke attacks of oportunity. if a brandistock with extended spikes is set against a charging character by using a ready action, it deals double damage on a hit against the charger.
