A book golem is made from a single, massive tome with a wise character on the front cover, typically a wizard or librarian, though some have monsters like sphinxes or metallic dragons. These golems are capable of speech, doing so with the mouth of this character. Unlike other golems, book golems are created not to be used as weapons, but rather as repositories of knowledge, as they can instantly absorb the knowledge of any book into themselves. When forced into battle, book golems defend themselves by launching darts of arcane energy at their enemies and flying out of their reach. Some book golems are created as true spellcasters; such creations are the culmination of a life's work and their creator's magnum opus. |
