Berryling[edit]
“ | The outer planes offer opportunities for those that inhabit them that those on material prime are barely even able to comprehend. Even for some of the creatures that they would consider inferior. | ” |
—Fragment of "Outer planes: Between chaos and law" Page 3292 |
In the infinite areas of the outer planes, specially those that are lead by good creatures, exist extraordinary beings that lend their hands to others: Tigers that give the best advice they can, Deer that make poetry, magnificent fields full of food and abundant resources. From seeds brought from those parts, sometimes beings get into the material plane. Beings that are not animalistic in nature, but more like the food they eat. This are the berrylings.
Physical Description[edit]
Berrylings are small creatures, around 3 feet tall, and their body seems to be made out of multiple berries.
They have a humanoid like structure; with 2 arms, two legs, a body and a head. They rarely have a neck and, if they have it, the head tends to be specially rigid. It is not uncommon fingers are leaf-like extensions of the distal berry that ocupies the hand or foot portion. Although this is the most common general distribution, it is not uncommon that they have 4 legs in a centaur-like body distribution, 2 heads, extra arms or any other variation of the standard humanoid anatomy. When this happens, most of the time the extra appendages tend to be disfunctional.
This beings usually don't have hair-like structures, but some develop vine-like hair, leaves or structures that would look like it. They sometimes create wigs with natural materials.
They tend to have green or the color of their berry namesake eyes, although colors like honey, white, violet or brown are not uncommon.

History[edit]
Most Berrylings affirm they were created by a powerful druidic God who was seeking to protect a vast amount of land from a giant raiding party of evil creatures who were seaking to take over it. Variations on this legend are not uncommon, although serious historians doubt this legends.
Most credible evidence, mainly analysis on the magic on the berrylings and of ancient assentments, points that the first berrylings were most likely brought by interplanar travelers or adventurers coming from the outer planes, most probably Arborea or the Beastlands. If it was by accident or by willingness is subject of debate. The most accepted theory is that some seeds came either in the food, clothing or inside the travelers, said seeds found fertile land in the material plane and history started. Some of the oldest communities say they are older than dragons, but the oldest evidence of them is around 1000 years old. To be fair; their lack of solid structures like bones, their preference to do their home in hard access jungles and forests, and their tendency to mainly use materials like wood, cotton or vines make hard for their structures to resist the passage of time.
Society[edit]
Because of their appreciation for nature, berrylings usually live in places where plant-life is abundant; mainly forests, jungles, and savannas. Most berryling assentments are rarely bigger than 50 members and it is not rare that multiple subraces share the same place. They have an strict vegetarian diet, although with enough sun and water they are able to thrive if no other food is available.
The central unit is the family. This one are always of berrylings of the same subspecies. Usually it consists on a male and female berryling. After they make seeds, they plant them in the terrain and take care of them, with a number of plants rounding from 1 to 5 growing in the course of 1 or 2 months. This plants give birth to 3 to 5 berrylings each, although usually half don't survive the first month. This young berrylings are cared and taught by their parents and they rarely leave the family before adulthood.
Most assentments are very close to each other, more to defend each other and exchange members to prevent inbreeding than any other reason, as they produce similar products and services.
Trade with them is very rewarding when they get reached: Perfumes, ropes, beautiful wood instruments and implements, soft natural fabrics, poisons and antidotes, bows and arrows, mermelade of exotic plants, sugar, traditional plant medicine and certain inks are products they trade happily for fresh vegetables, seeds and tools.
Berryling Names[edit]
Berrylings get a nickname once they are harvested. They choose a name only after they reach adulthood. They tend to follow the rules of elvish naming. They sometimes keep their nickname.
