Battlesworn[edit]

Through the dark night, the sound of iron cutting through stomachs is the only indication of a blood soaked elf as she walks away into the dark

Amidst a horde of goblins a dwarf with clashing blades spins like a whirlwind dispatching anything that gets too close to him

A human spins her blades in a deadly arc cleaving through the heads of her enemies in a perfect circle.

Fighting against insurmountable odds is what makes or break a battlesworn. Enemies from all directions makes no difference as their blades cleave through whatever may stand in their way. Born on the battlefield, learned on the battlefield, and loved by the battlefield, the Battlesworn revel in a fight.

A walking Battlefield[edit]

Battlesworn are those who are obsessed with their next fight, always looking for their next opponents, always looking to break against the tide of endless enemies. Fighting is more than a hobby or way of life. To a battlesworn, fighting IS life itself.

Creating a Battlesworn[edit]

When building a battlesworn, first you need to think what brought your character on this path? Simply being good at fighting like a fighter wouldn't cut it. A battlesworn eat, sleeps, and lives on the battlefield. Obsessed with the next fight, they should wholehearted pursue a reason to use their skills.

Obsession[edit]

Your choice grants you features at <!-insert the level when subclass features begin-> and again at <!-list all the levels the class gains subclass features->.->

Ability Score Improvement[edit]

When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.

Both Hands Busy[edit]

A battlesworn gains the follwoing features, as if she had the dual wielder feat:

You gain a +1 bonus to AC while you are wielding a separate melee weapon in each hand.

You can use two-weapon fighting even when the one handed melee weapons you are wielding aren't light.

You can draw or stow two one-handed weapons when you would normally be able to draw or stow only one.

At 11th level, a battlesworn wielding a weapon with the heavy or two handed property in their main hand may also wield another weapon in their offhand, as if both weapons had the light property. The second weapon must not have the heavy or two handed property.

at 18th level, a battlesworn may wield a weapon with either the heavy or two handed property in both her main and offhand.

Combo Attack[edit]

A Battlesworn is best known for the ability to keep fighting, like a never-ending storm. To that effect, it can often feel as if a battlesworn has a hundred hands, with as many blades to match. Beginning at first level, a battlesworn may make an additional attack per turn, as per the extra attack feature. This attack must be made with a different weapon than the first attack. A battlesworn may use combo attack a number of times shown for your level in the Combo column of the Battlesworn table, and regains all uses after a long rest.

Killing Chain[edit]

At 1st level, a battlesworn only grows stronger the more she fights. When she reduces a creature to 0 hitpoints or kills the creature, a battlesworn may make an extra attack against another creature within 5 feet of the slain creature, using the same weapon and attack bonus. If the extra attack also reduces the second creature to 0 hitpoints or kills the creature, the battlesworn starts a chain, which increases as she fights. Killing creatures increases the chain by one, while being hit reduces the chain by 1. At any point, a battlesworn may make a special attack after starting a chain, making an attack against a number of creatures equal to the number of chain kills she has, which ends the chain. This special attack cannot be used to start a new chain.

A battlesworn can chain attacks up to a certain limit, as described in the Chain column of the battlesworn table. She may start a chain as many times as she likes, but can only make the special attack a number of times equal to her proficiency bonus. A battlesworn regains all expended uses of killing chain after a long rest.

Extra Attack[edit]

Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn

= Eyes Behind the Head[edit]

Beginning at 7th level, a battlesworn lives with their head on a swivel. As a reaction, a Battlesworn may ignore being flanked until the end of her next turn. Features that rely on friendly creatures being within 5 feet of an enemy cannot be used against her. (For example, a rouge's sneak attack cannot be used against a battlesworn even if there is a friendly creature within 5 feet, but can still activate if the rogue has advantage on their roll)

A battlesworn may use this feature a number of times equal to her proficiency bonus. She regains all spent uses after a long rest

Cleave[edit]

At 9th level, a Battlesworn's combo attack feature becomes more deadly. When attacking, if the extra attack drops the enemy creature to zero HP or kills it, the battlesworn may use a reaction to make a third attack against another creature within 5 feet of the first two creatures. This third attack is made using a d4 as the damage, and cannot target the first two creatures hit with cleave.

Near or Far[edit]

At 11th level, a battlesworn may make a ranged weapon attack with her offhand weapon, as if it had the thrown property. The weapon has a range of 20/30. As part of this action a Battlesworn may draw a stowed weapon immediately after throwing.

Blindsense[edit]

Starting at 13th level, if you are able to hear, you are aware of the location of any hidden or invisible creature within 10 feet of you

Backswing[edit]

Beginning at 15th level, a Battlesworn may use a second cleave attempt per round

Vanquish the Horde[edit]

At 17th level a battlesworn becomes emboldened the more enemies she has to face. As a bonus action, she can give herself a bonus to attack rolls equal to the amount of enemy creatures within 30 feet. This bonus decreases every time and enemy drops to 0 hp, dies, or moves more than 30 feet away from the battlesworn. An enemy moving within 30 feet of her does not increase her bonus.

The battlesworn loses this bonus once it reaches half or less than the original starting amount, she may only use this feature once per day.

Elusive Pursuit[edit]

Beginning at 18th level when an enemy disengages from the battlesworn, she may make a move action up to her maximum move speed in the direction of the creature that disengaged. This movement does not trigger attack of opportunity

Bite Back[edit]

At 20th level, a battlesworn is never caught off guard. After being hit by an attack, she may use a reaction to make an immediate attack against that creature.

This feature may only be used once, and can be regained either after a long rest, or the Battlesworn scores a successful cleave on an enemy creature, killing both targets.
