Battle Master, Variant 2 (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
Battle Master (Variant)[edit]
Fighter Subclass. Simple and slightly improved Variant of PHB's BattleMaster subclass
Those who emulate the archetypal Battle Master employ martial techniques passed down through generations. To a Battle Master, combat is an academic field, sometimes including subjects beyond battle such as weaponsmithing and calligraphy. Not every fighter absorbs the lessons of history, theory, and artistry that are reflected in the Battle Master archetype, but those who do are well-rounded fighters of great skill and knowledge.
Student of War[edit]
At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with one type of artisan's tools of your choice.
At 3rd level you gain half proficiency bonus (rounded down) in History skill, if you are not proficient.
Combat Superiority[edit]
At 3rd level, you learn combat maneuvers (see Player's Handbook and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything for full descriptions) that are fueled by special dice called superiority dice.
- Maneuvers
You learn 4 maneuvers of your choice, which are listed under "Maneuvers" below. Many maneuvers enhance an attack in some way. You can use only 1 maneuver per attack.
You learn 2 additional maneuvers of your choice at 7th, 10th, 15th, 18th level. Each time you learn new maneuvers, you can also replace one maneuver you know with a different one.
Some of your maneuvers require your target to make a saving throw to resist the maneuver’s effects.
- Maneuver save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice)
- Superiority Dice
You have 4 superiority dice, which are D8s. A superiority die is expended when you use it to perform a maneuver.
You regain all of your expended superiority dice when you finish a short rest or long rest.
You gain 1 more superiority dice at level 7th, 10th, 15th, 18th.
Know Your Enemy[edit]
At 7th level, If you spend at least 1 minute observing or interacting with another creature outside combat, you can learn certain information about its capabilities compared to your own. The DM tells you if the creature is your equal, superior, or inferior in regard to one of the following characteristics of your choice:
A) Strength score, Dexterity score, Constitution score
B) Armor Class, Current hit points, Total class levels (if any), Fighter class levels (if any)
Improved Combat Superiority[edit]
At 10th level, all your superiority dice turn into D10s.
Fighting Expertise[edit]
At 15th level, you learn one more Fighting Style from the Fighter list. You can't take the same Fighting Style you already know.
At 15th level, you can add half proficiency bonus (rounded down) to your Initiative rolls.
Relentless[edit]
At 18th level, when you have no superiority dice remaining, you can roll D6s to use your maneuvers.
