Barken[edit]

Barken are a very simple folk. They usually like farming, and dwell in smaller villages. Most never even leave their home towns, but when they do, it's mostly for trading. However, sometimes, Barken step up and can become some of the greatest heroes Mammalia has ever seen. Most of the time, due to their loyal nature, this is because their home town or family was attacked. They are very tough and hardy, and their bodies are fitted perfectly for adventuring.

Physical Description[edit]

Barken, before The Great Fall which left humanity in shambles, used to be simple dogs. After centuries, all breeds formed an alliance, and they now all look somewhat similar. They have thick padded feet, and paws which grew over the years to have opposable thumbs. Most commonly, Barken are creme colored, but in some families, they are brown or black, similar to their ancestors. Their ears are upright when alert, but usually flop over at a middle point. They have big eyes, which almost all of are brown, but the rarest are blue or even green.

History[edit]

Barken have had a very limited impact on the history of the world. In the war for control that the Lionese won, they didn't take part, feeling content to sit out on all of the fighting and continue the farming. However, long ago, it is said that there was a great hero of the Barken, named Spot. He was a part of the Legendary Seven, a group of united people from Mammalia who defended her from the great monkeys of the west, known to call themselves 'humans'. His sword now rests in the middle of the Spider Woods, a magic enchantment on it waiting for a worthy Barken to come along and fight against the monkeys if they ever returned.

Society[edit]

As previously mentioned, loyalty and friendship is valued above all else in the Barken race. It is easy to make a friend out of a Barken, but if you harm their loved one, it is all too easy to make an enemy of an entire village. Barken are raised by their mother exclusively, with 4-5 other siblings. Despite the amount of relatives, Barken usually get lots of love and attention as puppies. When Mammalia rarely goes to war, most Barken will stay behind and make food for troops, but any that show prowess in sword fighting (the most common thing Barken are taught in) they are sent off to fight.

Barken Names[edit]

Barken names come from ancient artifacts of humanity called 'collars', which are assumed to denote the name of a dog. Because of his warrior life, Spot the hero's name has now become synonymous with adventure and danger, so usually only the strongest and healthiest babies are named that in hope they will be the new hero of Mammalia.
