Badlands[edit]
When traveling through or describing badlands, several key characteristics stand out:
- Geographical Nature and Terrain
- Badlands are characterized as windswept and barren landscapes, often sparsely covered in dry grass.
- They feature exposed rock faces and steep escarpments.
- While generally dry, tiny streams from hidden springs can rise and flow down to a for off River.
- The terrain can be difficult to traverse, potentially halving movement speed.
- Conceptually, badlands can be similar to other desolate or challenging environments such as uninhabited moorlands, wide marshes or swamps, or even dark and haunted forests, serving as settings for sinister activities. Marsh terrains, for example, can include thick, sticky mud, deep bogs, or even quicksand.
- Rocky deserts are explicitly mentioned as a type of badlands, featuring light or dense rubble, and sand dunes. Mountainous features like gradual or steep slopes, cliffs, and chasms also contribute to rugged, difficult landscapes.
