Aviara (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Aviara[edit]
Physical Description[edit]
Aviara are humanoid beings with avian characteristics, such as feathers, beak-like noses, and bird-like eyes. Their wings are attached to their arms or backs, with light, hollow bones that enable swift and graceful movement. While all Aviara have feathered bodies, their colors, shapes, and abilities vary depending on their subrace, which reflects the traits of real-world birds.
Aviara Appearance Variations[edit]
Falconborn Aviara: Resembling falcons, these Aviara possess sharp beaks, lean, muscular bodies, and feathers that are typically grey, brown, or black, often streaked with white. Their keen eyes and focused demeanor give them an air of precision.
Owlborn Aviara: Modeled after owls, Owlborn have round faces, large eyes, and soft, dense feathers in shades of brown, grey, or snowy white. Though their bodies are slightly bulkier, their wings allow for quiet movement and surprising agility.
Peacockborn Aviara: Inspired by peacocks, these Aviara are adorned with brilliant, iridescent feathers in blues, greens, and purples. Their large, showy tails, often fanned out, are symbols of beauty and charisma. However, their wings are smaller and less suited for long-distance flight.
Ravenborn Aviara: Resembling ravens and crows, Ravenborn have sleek black feathers, sharp beaks, and exude an aura of intelligence and mystery. Though slightly smaller, they are incredibly agile and stealthy.
Hawkblood Aviara: Resembling hawks, Hawkblood Aviara have golden-brown or rust-colored feathers, sharp, hooked beaks, and piercing amber or golden eyes. Their broad, powerful wings are built for fast, sharp dives. With lean but strong bodies, they are designed for quick aerial assaults and hunting.
Parrotkin Aviara: Inspired by tropical parrots, Parrotkin Aviara are vibrant and multicolored, with feathers in hues of red, green, yellow, and blue. Their short, curved beaks and sleek, bright feathers are often used for communication and display. Known for their charisma and mimicry, Parrotkin are excellent communicators and entertainers, with a joyful presence, though they can be temperamental.
History[edit]
The Aviara are an ancient race thought to have been gifted flight and form by deities of the sky. Over centuries, they have split into distinct groups, each adapting to different environments and societal roles. The Falconborn became revered as warriors and scouts, the Owlborn as wise scholars and nocturnal guardians, the Peacockborn as diplomats and artists, and the Ravenborn as tricksters and spies.
Society[edit]
Aviara society is divided into clans based on their subrace, though they coexist peacefully, each subrace contributing its unique strengths to their collective civilization. The Aviara live in cities built into mountainsides, treetop villages, and high towers, always seeking proximity to the sky. They value knowledge, agility, and beauty, with each subrace contributing to arts, philosophy, and defense in their own way. Leadership is often shared between subrace elders, ensuring a balance of wisdom, strength, and cunning in governance.
