Auger[edit]

An Auger is a thin baton, almost like a wand, that is constructed by a auger mage and allows them to channel their arcane power without material components. An Auger only stays charged for 24 hours.

Physical Description[edit]

A typical Auger is 8 inches to 16 inches long and about 1/2 inch thick at the base tapering to a point, and often weighs no more than 1 ounce. Simple Augers are wood, but some are bone. A rare few are metal, glass, or even ceramic, but these are quite exotic, and costly. Occasionally, an Auger has a gem or some device at its tip, and most are decorated with carvings or runes. A typical Auger has AC 7, 5 hit points, hardness 5, and a break DC of 16.

Activation[edit]

Auger use the delving slots poured into them by a auger mage, and can use all manner of Arcane spells. So casting a spell from an Auger is usually a standard action that doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity. To activate an Auger, a character must hold it in hand (or whatever passes for a hand, for nonhumanoid creatures) and point it in the general direction of the target or area. An Auger may be used while grappling or while swallowed whole.

Special[edit]

One does not have to be an Auger Mage to use an Auger. If a successful "Use Magic Device" check is made of 15 + the spell level of the last spell cast from the Auger is made, the Auger will continue to cast that spell till all of the Delving Slots are expended, or the charge reverts back to the Auger Mage.
