An antifield spell creates inverts and reverses the normal laws of physics in a given area, creating several effects.

First, the place looks like a color negative, red becomes orange, green becomes purple, black becomes white, etc. This effect distorts magical colors and light/darkness. All Evocation Category:Light Effect spells instead create an equal amount of darkness, likewise Category:Darkness Effect spells create an equal amount of light. A deeper darkness spell becomes a daylight spell, and visa-versa. Effects that deal damage from intense light (such as a searing light spell or a lantern archon's light rays) instead deal disintegration damage.

In addition, spells that have certain effect based on colored rays have those effects swapped for the opposite light-based color. (In light red is the opposite of orange, blue is the opposite of yellow, and green is the opposite of purple). For example, the outer layer of a prismatic sphere is orange, stops magical ranged weapons, and deals 40 points of acid damage.

Cold and heat energies are reversed, all forms of cold damage are replaced with fire damage and visa versa, all spells with the fire descriptor are replaced with the cold descriptor, so that wall of ice becomes wall of fire and a fireball is a coldball.

Negative energy and positive energy replace each other. Cure spells become inflict spells, disrupt undead damages living creatures only, a ray of enfeeblement gives a temporary bonus to Strength, slay living functions as raise dead, etc. Spells and effect that inflict ability damage magically and undead ability draining or damaging attacks cure the same amount, however things that inflict harm through poison or disease still function normally. Restoration and lesser restoration deal an amount of Constitution damage equal to that which they would otherwise heal. The spells create undead, create greater undead, and animate dead function as animate objects, animate objects functions as animate dead (affecting the nearest corpse within the antifield if the object touched is not a corpse). Undead create spawn abilities restore the person to life after the indicated time with 1 hit point.

Spells with the electricity descriptor or the acid descriptor appear to function normally.
