Seeming most like a caricature of a gorilla, this forest spirit has disproportionately massive forearms and short legs ending in dexterous feet. Where its face should be is a lozenge-shaped, wooden-looking "mask", pitted with knots that form a vague, uneven face and bordered by crests of flower petals. Anito are manifestations of nature spirits bound to a particular place or natural phenomenon; although not malevolent, they have odd, inhuman minds and capricious natures. They come in a variety of forms; the octal in particular is a powerful avatar used to demolish both interlopers who don't show the proper respect and fallen trees or boulders which have interrupted the natural flow of the anito's domain. |
