Animated dolls[edit]
This is not yet finished, I'm open for any critics and ideas.
Physical Description[edit]
While dolls usually represent females, the only real limit of what a doll looks like is the imagination of its maker. Animated dolls are made of cloth and usually are pieces of master work combining great magical skills and astonishing tailoring, thus they are a replica of a humanoid that can range from simple yet complex humans to a completely exotic humanoid creature that the designer wanted to create. Their skin is smooth and soft as silk making them easily be mistaken for a living creature. Even though one place on their body usually bares a mark of stiches which is where the doll's stuffing went, the finer the work the tinier the mark, although the stiches typically are placed in the back hidden by clothes. Less perfected works, might look rougher and may display features like stiches running across the body, different cloth types, making the doll look like a patchwork.
History[edit]
As one mage searched company as an assistant, she thought about her old childhood toy. A doll that she imagined when she was innocent and young, thus making a simple body with childish mind. Is what most people would say about the creation of these. However the reality is that we might never know, as it could as well come from the traditions of Eberron or an accident all along. The only information that goes on about their origins are fairy tales and theories, nonetheless animated dolls are one of the ways to get a being with the form that one searched to achieve or to have an easily repairable servant.
Attitudes and Beliefs[edit]
Most animated dolls were created to serve in a way. Some were made to entertain others to seek truth, in any case this and their nature shows that they are closely related to magic users more often than not. When their masters heartlessly throws them away or passes away, animated dolls tend to search for purpose or try to continue their functions even if they do not have to anymore. The fact that they were made and that they are so unique in their very ways means that there is no real answer to what a doll will do when they inevitably come to loneliness. Maybe they shall try to blend in, or isolate themselves furthermore. In any case they are sentient beings, whom may react with a bit of a naive nature due to the fact that we do not born wise.
Dolls Names[edit]
As stated before, their variety of makers make them unique in way or another, names are no exception, while some have simple names others have intricate metaphorical ones, that can be in any languages.
Animated dolls Traits[edit]
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Age. As a doll, you were conceived and then animated by magic gifting you sentience. As such you do not really age like organic creatures and can live forever at the condition that you take care of yourself, being made of cloth means that with no proper cleaning and maintenance you might rot away.
Alignment. As a piece of art and creation your view of the world is often aligned with one of your maker's. While you do not naturally tend towards good or evil, you do have a slightly higher chance of being loyal than chaotic.
Size. Animated dolls are made trying to replicate humanoids and comes in different sizes ranging from barely 5 feet to a wapping 6 feet. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Living construct. As a construct you are immune to diseases and advantage on saving throws against poisons. You do not need to eat, drink nor breath, but can perform these actions like an organic being if you wish. Instead of sleeping you enter an inactive state for 6 hours where you reattune your magic essence, in this state you are aware of your surroundings, however you can only hear and feel the sense of touch in this state. After fully resting in this state, you gain the same benefits as a person would normally get from a long rest.
Silky skin. You are made out of cloth, making you most likely elegant and fragile. You are flammable meaning you take an additional die of damage against fire.
Light hearted. As you are made of lightweight and flexible materials you do not make a lot of sound when moving. You gain proficiency in Stealth.
Cushionned ( optional ). You are so light and squishy that when you fall it looks like a squeeky toy, you take no fall damage.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
Subrace. You have been tailored, to be unique in a way !
Playful[edit]
You were made to entertain in a way or another, giving you beautiful cloth and convincing speech.
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score is increased by 2.
Warm as a blanket. You may have been with others for quite some time now, and always know how to make people cheer up. You gain proficiency in two of the following skill of your choice : Performance ; Persuasion ; Deception ; Insight
Magic trick. You always have a trick up your sleeve to see people smile, in this similar fashion you have been given ways to always have the right trick at the right time. You gain the cantrip prestidigitation.
Assistant[edit]
You were created for the purpose of helping out your maker peform his work.
Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score is increased by 2.
Apprentice. You were taught the ways of an art in which you were needed. You gain proficiency in one tool of your choice and in one of the following skills of your choice : Arcana ; History ; Nature ; Religion ; Medicine.
Specialization. You were created to be particularly good in field, which makes you naturally talented in it. You double the proficiency in the tool or the skill you have been granted by the "Apprentice" trait.
Patchwork[edit]
Perhaps you were not made for elegance, but rather for combat and exploration.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score is increased by 2 or your Strength score is increased by 1 and your Dexterity score is futher increased by 1 making it a +2.
Rough skin. Your skin is composed of tough fabric and/or leather making you sturdier than your counterparts but making you explicitly look like a doll. When you aren't wearing armor your AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your rough skin's AC.
Quick fix. Being less picky about your appearance, more stiches or less of them is not going to bother the patchwork that you are. So why not repair yourself with whatever you have ? Using 1 minute and one of these tools : Leatherworker's tools ; Tinker's tools ; Weaver's tools or even the mending cantrip, you can expand 1 of your hit dice to regain hit points. You can use this feature as long as you have hit dices available.
Little girl's doll[edit]
You were made like a regular doll and bestowed sentience, however the magic used is still the same giving you new possibilities.
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score is increased by 2 or your Charisma score is increased by 1 and your Dexterity score is futher increased by 1 making it a +2.
Made for smaller. You are the size of a normal doll of about a foot tall. Your size is not medium anymore, you are now tiny.
Small legs. You are smaller and thus cannot traverse as fast as other animated dolls. Your walking speed is now 25 ft.
Threaded hands. While you may not have hands, your high magic makes you being able to move your threads and attach it to whatever you want. You are able to carry and use items no matter the form of your hands and you are counted has being under the spider climb effects.
This but a toy. Being made like a child's toy may have some cons sometimes, because this means that you get mistaken for a toy sometimes... On the bright side, you get mistaken as a toy sometimes! You have advantage on Deception checks when you try to pretend to be a regular doll.
Shrunk in the wash. Maybe you are fed up of being bullied because of your height, lucky for you, you have a solution. You can use this feature a number of time equal to your proefiency bonus and regain its usages after a long rest, you can chose to be or revert back to a tiny doll, or grow to medium size animated doll, in medium size all of the traits of your subrace do not apply to you anymore, and you gain a climbing speed of 10 ft. You can also chose to have the look of the humanoid you were supposed to represent making you look like an organic, or just be a larger version of your current appearance. In combat to use this trait you shall use an action and consume all of your movement.
Animated Doll Feats ( optional )[edit]
Feat : Lighter than air[edit]
Prerequisite : Animated doll, Little girl's toy
The ground is maybe a bit too close for your liking, so you decided to lift up ! By concentrating your magic you are able to levitate, slowly, but levitate nonetheless !
- You are now able to gain a fly speed of 1/2 your speed for up to 10 minutes of concentration.
- You can use this ability up to 3 times, and regain its uses after finishing a long rest.
Feat : Express Shrink[edit]
Prerequisite : Animated doll
Dolls are small, so why are you so big ? While we can now tell that you are construct because of an uncanny feeling due to the lack of stiches and liveliness of your appearance, you are now the size a regular doll ! Maybe you can hang out at that doll tea party now.
- You are now able to become tiny or medium by using this feat. If your size is not already altered by something else than this feat.
- When you use this feat your size is altered until you use this feature again, meaning that you must take a short rest to change size.
- You can use this feature once and regain its usage after a short rest.
- If you use this feat in combat, you must take an action and consume all your movement.
- If you are a Little girl's toy, when you use this feat to become medium, you still gain a climbing speed of 10ft.
