Edition 3.5e - - Name Adaptation Division of Vessel Magic Summary The Adaptation Division focuses on evolving and reshaping magical abilities to suit various situations. Practitioners gain unique abilities that allow them to adjust their spells and techniques dynamically, making them formidable in combat and versatile in challenges.

Ranks 5 Description The Adaptation Division emphasizes flexibility and resilience within Vessel Magic. Each level in the Devout Leader prestige class grants two ranks in the Adaptation Division, up to a maximum of 5 ranks. Additional ranks can also be acquired through specific feats or training related to adaptability in magic.

 - Third-Level Ability: You gain access to one third-level ability

- Rank 4:

 - First-Level Abilities: You may use four first-level abilities.  
 - Second-Level Abilities: You may use three second-level abilities.  
 - Third-Level Abilities: You may use two third-level abilities.  
 - Fourth-Level Ability: You gain access to one fourth-level ability.

- Rank 5:

 - First-Level Abilities: You may use five first-level abilities.  
 - Second-Level Abilities: You may use four second-level abilities.  
 - Third-Level Abilities: You may use three third-level abilities.  
 - Fourth-Level Abilities: You may use two fourth-level abilities.  
 - Fifth-Level Ability: You gain access to one fifth-level ability.

Ability Flexibility[edit]

You can switch which abilities you’re using at the start of each day or with 1 hour of concentration, allowing you to adapt to new challenges.

- The Adaptation Division grants additional abilities focused on modifying spells, altering effects, and enhancing resilience to various challenges. - As you progress through the ranks, your abilities grow in complexity and power, enabling you to manipulate your magical repertoire effectively.

1st Rank Abilities[edit]

1. Adaptive Resilience

  Every time you are hit by an effect (spell, attack, or ability), you gain a +1 bonus to saving throws or resistances against that specific effect, stacking up to a maximum of +20. This effect resets at the end of the day.

2. Damage Immunity

  At the start of each day, you can choose One damage type you have encountered before (such as fire, ice, lightning, etc.) and become immune to them. Changing between these damage types takes 2 turns.

3. Immunity Adaptation

  You can automatically adapt to an opponent’s immunities or resistances. Whenever you face an enemy with an immunity or resistance, you can roll a d2 (coin flip). On a successful roll, you negate their immunity or resistance for the duration of the encounter. This ability is passive and can be used in combat without expending resources.

4. Quick Modification

  Once per round, you can modify a spell or ability you cast to change its damage type to any type you have previously encountered. This allows you to overcome resistances or immunities effectively, enhancing your versatility in battle.

2nd Rank Abilities[edit]

Ability Memory Whenever a specific spell hits you, it becomes memorized. You can choose up to 3 abilities or spells to be immune to entirely for the rest of the day. This allows you to effectively counter threats based on your previous experiences.

Enhanced Adaptive Resilience Your Adaptive Resilience ability is upgraded. Each time you are hit by an effect, you gain a +5 bonus to saving throws or resistances against that specific effect, stacking up to a maximum of +40. This increases your defensive capabilities significantly against repeated attacks.

Expanded Damage Immunity You can now choose up to 2 damage types you have encountered before to become immune to, instead of the previous limit of 1. This allows for greater flexibility in facing diverse challenges.

3rd Rank Abilities[edit]

Advanced Ability Memory

  Whenever a specific spell hits you, it is memorized. You can now choose up to 6 abilities or spells to be immune to entirely for the rest of the day. This vastly improves your ability to counter threats and adapt based on past experiences.

Superior Adaptive Resilience

  Your **Enhanced Adaptive Resilience** ability is further upgraded. Each time you are hit by an effect, you now gain a +10 bonus to saving throws or resistances against that specific effect, stacking up to a maximum of +80. This makes you extremely resistant to repeated attacks or magical effects.

Ultimate Damage Immunity

  You can now choose up to 4 damage types you have encountered before to become immune to, instead of the previous limit of 4. This grants unparalleled flexibility and protection against a wide variety of damage types, making you nearly impervious to common attacks.

4th Rank Abilities[edit]

Ultimate Ability Memory Your mastery of memorizing and adapting to specific abilities and spells reaches its peak. Whenever a specific spell or ability affects you, it is instantly memorized. You can now choose up to 10 abilities or spells to be completely immune to for the rest of the day. This ability enables you to efficiently counter a vast array of threats, adapting seamlessly to previous encounters.

Supreme Adaptive Resilience Your Superior Adaptive Resilience is further enhanced. Each time you are hit by a specific effect (such as a spell or ability), you gain a +15 bonus to saving throws or resistances against that effect, stacking up to a maximum of +100. This heightened resistance makes you highly durable, allowing you to withstand repeated attacks or magical effects with ease. This bonus resets at the end of the day.

Adaptive Resistance Transfer You can transfer your resilience to an ally in need. Once per encounter, you can bestow half of your Supreme Adaptive Resilience bonuses to an ally within 30 feet. This transferred resilience lasts until the end of the encounter and allows the ally to benefit from your accumulated defenses, enhancing their survival and adaptability in battle.

5th Rank Abilities[edit]

Absolute Damage Immunity You become impervious to nearly all forms of damage. At the start of each day, you can choose up to 6 damage types (e.g., fire, necrotic, radiant, lightning, force, or psychic) to become fully immune to. Changing between these types requires only 1 turn, and this immunity lasts until the end of the day. Additionally, for each damage type you are immune to, you gain resistance to all other types.

Reality Shift Once per encounter, you can alter reality itself to negate a powerful attack or effect aimed at you or an ally. Upon activation, choose any hostile spell, ability, or effect within 60 feet; it is instantly nullified and has no effect. In addition, for the next 3 turns, you gain immunity to all attacks of the same type as the one nullified. Reality Shift can be used reactively and requires no action to activate, allowing you to protect yourself or an ally at a critical moment.

Adaptive Power Overload Once per day, you can release an overwhelming surge of adaptive energy, dramatically amplifying your abilities. For the next 5 turns, you gain the following effects:

Double all ability score modifiers (e.g., Strength, Intelligence). Double all resistances and immunities, making you practically invulnerable. Gain +50 to all saving throws and damage rolls. After these 5 turns, however, you are temporarily weakened, suffering a -10 penalty to all ability scores and halving your resistances and immunities for the next hour.


Adaptive Elemental Devastation Channeling the ultimate adaptability, you unleash a massive elemental attack that incorporates all damage types you are currently immune to. As an action, you can target an area within 100 feet, dealing 10d12 damage of each selected type (e.g., fire, ice, necrotic) to all creatures within a 30-foot radius. Creatures in the area must succeed on a DC 25 Dexterity saving throw or take full damage from each type, taking half on a successful save. This attack is immune to any form of resistance or immunity the targets may have, bypassing even the strongest defenses.

Essence of Immortality Your mastery of adaptation grants you a form of true immortality. Once per day, upon reaching 0 hit points, you instantly restore yourself to full health and maximum hit points. Additionally, you gain the following bonuses for the next 10 turns:

Regenerate 50 HP per turn automatically. Immunity to all conditions, such as paralysis, petrification, fear, charm, and any status effect that would impede your movement or actions. For each creature you defeat while under this effect, you gain +10 temporary hit points and a +2 bonus to all saving throws, stacking until the effect ends. If you would fall to 0 hit points again within this duration, Essence of Immortality can activate once more, granting you a second resurgence..
