From Overlord

Abyzou are tall faceless beings made of a sludge like black essence. Dimly glowing lights suspected to be their eyes shine behind the slime on their supposed head area. They have no neck or indicative features for gender and their body shapes are amorphous and thereby simple. They have very long arms and walk bent over with their arms hanging. An abyzou's voice is low, throaty and emotionless. A smell of rotted algae wafts about them.

History[edit]

Abyzou are thought to be naturally occurring within swampy areas, like sludge cesspools, which have had prolonged exposure to necrotic energy or moonlight. These creatures feed mainly on rotting matter in their vicinity and can be deadly when life forms stop by to drink by what they think is a dark body of water. Abyzou are known to appear drawn to sewage works in cities and small towns, making them a nuisance for civilization. There was once a town which was run to the ground when abyzou infested their wells and drove out the townspeople by thirst. They are believed to be of average intelligence to be able to cooperate and act en masse. Wizards and warlocks have also been known to create abyzous by accident. They can be tamed to be used as servants.

Society[edit]

Abyzou congregate mainly in the swamps where they are born. They do not make villages but rest in the roots of mangroves or in shrubs and lake bottoms. Every month or so, they are known to have a mating session where they seem to join with another mate. It is not known if they have real sexes, however. They rarely interact with other creatures intelligently and are regarded as nuisances by many humanoids. Abyzous can move in to infest towns, but they do not integrate in societies. They are common in help wanted posters in guilds, usually as the source of pollution or such. However, their fluid shape makes them extremely difficult to be rid of.

Some abyzous may actually showcase their ability to speak. These are known to be curious ones, as abyzous never talk to many outsiders. Often times, curious abyzous will venture out to explore the world, only to be shunned.

Abyzou Names[edit]

Abyzou have no known sex. They are capable of speaking but rarely ever use names that outsiders can hear.
