Viridanai

Personality

The Virindanai hate ugly things and noise. Music, art, beauty, these are the things they treasure. Having been forced to once more live amongst the Ugly-Worlders, those Virindanai who go anywhere are often bitter, or scared. Those who make it past those feelings often suffer from depression or else seek out beauty in the world to surround themselves with. The happy ones are always prepared to appreciate something beautiful, or to produce it, after their talents, but will rarely attempt to create something they are not gifted in (all Virindanai are gifted in some form of artistic expression). Disliking violence, they can be driven to it by observing the destruction of beautiful things, or by attacks against themselves. When dealing with others, their personal appearance is of high importance, though they never treat anyone rudely or ungraciously. Instead, as a sign that they dislike someone, they will become excessively polite, never letting their guard down or showing friendship.

Physical Description

In all ways, the Viridanai resemble half-elves. This is mainly because, basically, that's what they are. This means they range from just under five feet to around 6 feet in height, between 100 and 180 pounds. The men are taller than the women, though not by much. Their eye color is often green but not always, their hair varies all over the place, taking human and elven coloration possibilities. Their skin is usually fair, and their ears are very slightly pointed.

Relations

Unlike half-elves, who get along with just about all of the light races, Viridanai have retained the aloofness and haughtiness of their elven ancestry. Indeed, for them not even elves quite match up unless they are above average for an elf. Any individual with a charisma score lower than 14 will find themselves being treated with exaggerated politeness.

Alignment

Much as it might seem that the Viridanai should be forces for Good, this is not always the case, though mainly it holds. The problem stems from what one finds 'beautiful'. For some, a tree is a beautiful thing. For others it's a source of wood. For some, the plucking of a lute can be beautiful. For others, it's screams of torment. Viridanai can be any alignment, though the perverted variety who find beauty in things that most other light races ugly or, at least, disturbing and frightening are rare. Viridanai are almost always Lawful, however, as they abhor the chaos of the world. Some few are Neutral. They are never Chaotic.

Lands

Viridanai have their own lands. Dozens of generations ago, a group of humans and elves decided they knew what was wrong with the world: It was ugly and unjust, the strong ruling the weak by force. So, in secret, they gathered to make a huge dimensional pocket. And into that pocket they put a huge mass of land, enough for a city. Those on the rest of the world are here in one of three ways (up to DM). The first way is accidental, they have been subject to some sort of unintended removal from the pocket dimension. The second way is a punishment, banishment from the pocket dimension by the elders for some ultimate crime (this is considered worse than death, and thus reserved for the truly heinous crimes). The final way is that the DM can rule that the pocket dimension has collapsed (either on its own or by outside forces) forcing the Viridanai to scatter and take up residence in whatever communities will have them. They will, in all cases, prefer living with elves since they are closer to the right sort of people than the other races.

Religion

None. The Viridanai have abstained from any relation with any god or gods in the hopes that by not asking for divine intervention in their lives they won't draw attention. Note that there are divine spellcasting Viridanai, but they are generally Druids or others who do not rely on actual gods for their power.

Language

Viridanai understand Common and Elven. Though they could, in theory, learn other languages fairly well, they will avoid those that aren't pretty. For most, this leaves Sylvan and Celestial, though the DM may allow others.

Names

As elven names.
