Drakiin

"A draconic elf with horns, shimmering scales, and radiant beauty...it was as if she was blessed by the fey themselves...her gaze both shook and embraced me." Unknown Sorcerer

Physical Description

Born within the mystical boundaries of the Feywild, drakiin inherit most of their most appearance from their eladrin parent while their draconic features come in the form of scales and horns. Their horns will typically grow upward with slight curvature towards the centers. Their scales appear in linear patches along their arms, thighs, and face with intermittent patches on the back. Tattoo-like markings start at their upper arms and swirl up to the forehead forming a crescent shape. Drakiin are slender and graceful with the males boasting a slightly more muscular frame than the females as well as being taller. They are born without permanent wings and tails due to them being able to sprout and dismiss them magically as they mature. Unlike their dragon parents drakiin seem to fall short in the brute strength department but make up the difference with their arcane skill and agileness.

History

The eladrin, during their visits to The Material Plane, were trying to find a way to prevent tragedies such as the Time of Troubles and the Spellplague. Or at least a way to sense similar events prior to the climax of them. As they pondered they realized that they would need a highly sensitive being that could sense even the slightest change in the flow of magics around them on a greater scale unlike their own species. Against their nature a few eladrin sought the help of the metallic dragons (because the chromatic dragons tend to prey on elves, especially the green dragons) due to their attunement to the flow of magic. Though the dragons were willing to help they could not devote any time monitoring the flow of magic around them and fight the war against chromatic dragons at the same time. The dragons then made a proposal: A dragon from each metallic subtype would grant their magic essence to an eladrin mother carrying an unborn child to create a highly empathic creature that could serve the eladrin’s purposes. In exchange once the child reached maturity, it would leave the Feywild and be further trained by the draconic parent to fight against Tiamat and her followers in the Dragonfall war. The eladrin agreed and upon their next visit sent a select few eladrin mothers to receive the blessings of the dragons. They would return to the Feywild and birth the child in areas where the magic was the most concentrated. The resulting offspring would become known as the drakiin.

Society

Being so few, drakiin do not have a society of their own. They will typically adopt the culture of the eladrin due to them being introduced to it first before learning of their draconic heritage. They grow quickly reaching the maturity of a 10-year-old human around the age of 5 and physical maturity at the age of 20. During their time in the Feywild young drakiin are introduced and trained in everything related to magic and swordplay. Once near physical maturity drakiin are turned over to their draconic parent they are taught to harness their innate draconic powers in the form of their wings, breath and a transformation. Afterwards a drakiin will be sent off into the world as adventurers to carry out the duties assigned to them by their parents and further their own development. They are expected to be devote fighters and overseers for their parents' causes.
