Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: Clunky and uses incorrect wording throughout. The traits need to be mechanically worded correctly as they are often vague. Flat bonus's to AC should be avoided, instead, increase the base AC. Overall poorly executed and needs a rework both from a mechanic and lore perspective to better integrate with the first party content. Consult the 5e Race Design Guide for help and see the Featured Articles pages for some exemplary content.

Machine Doll

From the day I was born, I was but a mere tool. Then this tool was given a purpose and for the first time in her Existence, she started living.

Machine Dolls are a mechanical race. They tend to look like humans with some of the more intricate designs being indiscernible from their flesh and bone mold at first sight. The exterior of the doll shows hints of mechanical nature as most machine dolls have lines running down their cheeks or eyes where the doll would remove their face either for replacement or repair. Their exterior bodies are generally featureless except for shape, unless it is a more advanced or intricate model. Their joints are riveted to allow removal, however, this requires the doll to remove the safety locks as to avoid tampering while on hibernation. They are powered by a magical orb called Core. Cores reside on the center of the body underneath the chest and close to the spine, to allow easy defense and maximum protection. This cores, when revealed, shine with the energy that powers the doll, generally the same color as the eyes of the doll. The synthetic hair allows for a multitude of hairstyles and they can be shaped in ways almost impossible for humanoids, thanks to the structure of the hair being manipulable from atom to atom, so color, style and length can be modified in a couple of seconds by the doll. Their skin, in the more advanced models, is synthetically made of the small self-fixing tissue that fix the doll over time, they can only repair small cuts at a time but with enough time they can regenerate almost completely back to new.

History

Foreword: Project Genesis. Magnetic tape #645

'<Begin Log, Time: 21:34. Date: ██/██/████>'

Engineer ██████: A new project has been handed down to us. Apparently it comes from the council---

Artificer ██████: [Exhasperated voice] What is it?

Engineer ██████: The project is to develop a weapon to minimize human casualties, a being that can replace soldiers in the front lines...

Artificer ██████: Simple killing machines... My talent here is wasted. Have they no taste for art?

Engineer ██████: Not everyone has the same passions as YOU do. Also, it pays good. Got any ideas?

Artificer ██████: Well, we can either make what they want... or we can go one step higher...

Engineer ██████: Well, that was fast... what do you have planned? A goliath robot? A mechanized dragon?

Artificer ██████: I have something better... What if we take the creature at the top of the feeding chain . . . and make it even better, an emulation of what perfection strives to be!

Engineer ██████: So a mechanical dragon then?

Artificer ██████: YOU FOOL! I'm talking about mankind! We live in a dangerous world but despite our lack of special qualities we have managed to climb just as high if not higher than any other race! We have mastered the arcane, we have hunters that can challenge elves and people who dare fight dragons with their bare hands. Just imagine what a human could accomplish with the right body... What the right body could accomplish with a human mind...

Engineer ██████: So you want to make humanoid machines?

Artificer ██████: Humanoid? yes. Machines? Yes and no. Start working on an exoskeleton... The blueprints are in my table. I'll work on the heart of the machine. It is resisting quite a lot.

Next 16 hours of recording are Engineer ██████ and Artificer ██████ working. Transcript ommited for sake of brevity.

Artificer ██████: Yes, yes... I think we have done it! My vision is almost complete! now we just need to power her...

Engineer ██████: Are you sure we should do this?... This "thing"... it looks too real... Almost as if it were a real girl. It looks like...

A loud thunder can be heard as Artificer ██████ pulls a lever down. After lightning crossed her, The creature starts moving from the table. Its movements are static and calculated.

'Static, laughter and screams'

<End Log>

This is thought to be the creation of the first machine doll, around 150 years ago. It is unknown when they gained their autonomy but some think that it was given by the strong desire of their original creator.

Society

Machine dolls tend to blend in with human society mostly used as performers and soldiers. Their capability to blend so seemingly makes them a potential threat to anyone attempting to attack a human settlement. While they have certainly been helpful to humanoids, mainly humans, they are regarded mostly as tools that serve no purpose other than their service to their master. As such, many machine dolls that have rebelled against their masters have escaped and tried to blend into other human societies. It is not uncommon for small villages outside of cities to be made mostly if not entirely out of rogue machine dolls that have obtained autonomy.

Machine doll Names

Most Machine dolls are named for what they were originally made for, the models often being names of gods or artifacts that excel at their given task. as such machine dolls are often just called by their model, however, when machine dolls go against their masters will they change their names in order to escape their number. The original number and model is engraved on their backs and, for some reason, it is completely imposible to remove or modify by anything shorter than a Wish spell.

Machine Doll Traits

A race of mechanical constructs fashioned to look like humans . . . they even feel like humans at times.
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
Age. Machine Dolls are ageless. They can live as long as they have proper major maintenance, although without it they start having problems at around 2 years of the last major manteinance, failing completely before they reach 10 years.
Alignment. Machine dolls tend to follow the alignment of their masters in order to please them, however, machine dolls that have gone against their masters have found alignments on all spectrums.
Size. By rule of thumb, most Machine dolls are about 5 feet tall and weight a little more than 200 pounds. Your size is medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet
Darkvision. Your mechanical eyes are designed to adapt to low light. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of green.
Living Machine. You are considered both a construct and a humanoid. You are resistant to poison damage and to the poisoned and petrified conditions. You don't need to breathe or eat, but because your syntethic skin and muscles are extremely close to humanoid ones, you are not immune to disease or paralysis. In addition, you need to be fixed once every seven days, requiring either a flask of oil or smith tools, which are consumed. Failing to get fixed makes you take one level of exhaustion which can't be removed unless you take 8 hours to get fixed by a humanoid with proficiency in smith tools per level of exhaustion, requiring 2 flasks of oil and smith tools per level of exhaustion, both of which are consumed. If you are proficient with smith tools, you can do either of this minor fixings yourself as long as you have the equipment. Once a year or after acumulating any number of failed death saves you need to be majorly fixed. This process takes 3 days and requires 3 sets of smith tools, 10 flasks of oil, a gem worth at least 500GP, 20 pounds of various metals including silver, gold, copper, iron and steel and can only be performed by an artificer. Until you get majorly fixed you can't regain health points in any way, magic or otherwise, you can't recover from exhaustion and you don't lose accumulated death saves. All the accumulated damage andconditions are reset after finishing this mayor fixing.
Core Energy Recovery. When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in a hibernation state to charge your core. A full charge requires at 6 hours of continual hibernation.
