Northern trolls are imposing creatures, just like their other troll cousins. Their bodies are a bluish color rather than green due to the cold, and their skin often seems to have frozen scales spotting about their body. Some albino type are pale with skin so translucent that their blood can be seen coursing underneath. Their bodies are extremely susceptible to fire, moreso than the normal troll, and their regenerative properties only function in water. Like other trolls, they retain their superior olfactory senses and powerful arms. But unlike other primitive trolls, northern trolls have been seen often wearing animal pelts and using tools and weaponry. Their bodies are also less dexterous than regular trolls.

History[edit]

Northern trolls are considered an oddity in their history. It is believed they originated from Troll Mountain in Amn of West Faerun. Disputes between tribes resulted in one particular group being chased north, to the region of Frozenfar, where they live to this day. To survive amid the harsh climate, they have thus adapted to the cold, evolving a body durable against it, and learned a few tricks along the way.

Society[edit]

Northern trolls have evolved to rely on one another and cooperate, as survival in the frigid lands of Frozenfar are unforgiving. Alone, they would be prey to the well-adapted creatures of the cold. Thus, they have a cohesive tribal society based in camps where they organize roles to better increase their survival chances. Since their regeneration is water based, their camps are usually found near bodies of water.

The strongest one is the leader, with powers similar to a shaman chief. Males and females both shared guard duties due to their physical prowess. They typically mate in springtime and gave birth in the fall, during which guarding young would be the most important task. Northern trolls were also known to be able to craft and wield armor as skillfully as other civilized races. They often harvested parts from remorhazes from where frost giants would tame them, as well as scales from white dragons.

Northern Troll Names[edit]

Trolls in the north have similar names to normal trolls.

Female: Katanja, Yeree, Renjai, Zalmea
