Conditional Magic Resistance. While wielding his accursed crozius, the dark apostle has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Keen Senses. The dark apostle has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight, hearing, or smell.

Power Armour. While wearing his armour, the dark apostle is immune to inhaled poisons and has resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks that aren’t adamantine.

Regeneration. The dark apostle recovers 5 hit points at the start of each of its turns as long as it has at least 1 hit point remaining.

Spellcasting. The dark apostle is an 8th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell saving throw DC 16, +8 on spell attacks). The chaos marine has the following cleric spells prepared:
Cantrips (at will): thaumaturgy, guidance, sacred flame

Multiattack. The dark apostle uses its Frightful Presence. It then makes two attacks: one with its accursed crozius and one with its bolt pistol, two with its accursed crozius, or two with its bolt pistol.

Accursed Crozius. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (3d6 + 11) bludgeoning damage, and the target has disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws until the end of its next turn.

Bolt Pistol. Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, range 30/120, one target. Hit: 7 (2d6) piercing damage and 9 (2d8) slashing damage.

Battle Cry (3/Day). Each creature of the dark apostle’s choice that is within 30 feet of it, can hear it, and not already affected by Battle Cry gain advantage on attack rolls until the start of the dark apostle’s next turn. The dark apostle can then make one attack as a bonus action.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of the dark apostle’s choice that is within 30 feet of the dark apostle and aware of him must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the dark apostle’s Frightful Presence for 24 hours.

Dark apostles are the twisted counterparts of space marine chaplains. Having long ago turned their backs on the god-emperor, these warrior-priests of the Ruinous Powers lead their war-hosts into battle with fiery zeal and unholy magic.

Spurned for Faith. It is said that the very first dark apostles were devout worshippers of the god-emperor, extolling his divinity and erecting chapels in his name across countless worlds. But for reasons unknown, their god spurned their worship and humiliated them by levelling the greatest of their cathedral cities. Hurt and confused, these priests turned elsewhere in search of something to believe in… and found the Ruinous Powers. Now they preach the unholy creed of the Chaos Gods with an even greater zeal than they did for their treacherous emperor.

Bearers of the Word. All dark apostles bear a copy of the Book of Lorgar, an unholy text containing prayers, scriptures, and theological treaties on the nature of the Chaos Gods. Though the Book spans thousands of volumes and is ever being expanded, many dark apostles will memorize huge tracts of the text by heart, which they recite to their warriors before, during, and after battle. Some will go so far as to tattoo entire passages from the Book across every inch of their body, even scrimshawing briefer sections onto their teeth.

Icon of Sin. Dark apostles use the same crozius maces that loyalist chaplains wield, but centuries of worshipping the Ruinous Powers has transformed these weapons into objects of pure evil. So long as he holds his accursed crozius, a dark apostle enjoys the protection of his gods.

Unholy Rituals. Unlike their chaplain counterparts, dark apostles do not rely exclusively on their unshakable conviction and peerless oratory skills. Their devotion to the Chaos Gods is rewarded with unholy magic and the knowledge of blasphemous rituals. With these dark rites an apostle can discern the future, conjure fiends, and turn the tides of battle in his favour.
