Gremlin

Personality

Gremlins are often bright bold and full of character. A gremlin will often go out of its way to aid another even if it not in its interest. Their communities are often large in size and are full of energy and happiness. However even though most gremlins are good natured and happy they care little for laws and rules. This shows itself in their natural desire to disable constructed objects. Which often means breaking commoners farming equipment, putting out furnaces, taking the wheels off of wagons, disabling traps and ruining finely crafted objects. However gremlins have also been known to cause far greater problems in society like disabling a high ranking officials constructed bodyguards before a meeting with an evil overlord, or taking apart a whole armour crafting warehouse during a great war. These acts of destruction are what prevent gremlins from making allies among other races.

A gremlins only desire is to be happy; they have very little in terms of possessions and have no material needs.

Physical Description

Gremlins are short in height only standing 2 to 2 and a half feet tall. With a body much like that of a gnome or halfling and a round ball shaped head that looks slightly too big for its body, a gremlin is a strange sight indeed. This is made all the stranger by the gremlins two large eyes, its dog like nose and mouth, with floppy ears like that of a rabbit that hang at the side of its head almost touching its shoulders. These traits either make the gremlin look repulsive or strangely cute depending on the community it comes from.

A male gremlin is covered in thick hair often a muddy brown or black colour, whilst the female gremlins are pale white and completely bald with creamy smooth skin. These females tend to be shorter and less stocky than the males.

Gremlins eyes are often yellow orange or green. They have very little regard for physical appearance and are often coated in dirt. The males and females only normally wear very basic braces made of tatty leather. However more rare communities of gremlins are known to wear far nicer braces shoes and even hats, along with more uniquely coloured eyes and skin.

Gremlins weigh about 50 pounds and reach maturity at the age of 14 and often only live to a maximum age of 50.

Relations

Gremlin communities are disliked by other races due to their destructive nature and are often hunted down by trained gremlin exterminators. When such people find gremlins they are killed much like vermin. However this is not to say that every time a gremlin is caught they get executed. If a commoner captures a gremlin they often make servants/slaves out of them. A gremlin resents this at first, however over time they learn to accept their new role in their new society and appreciate it. This is because Gremlins are easily pleased and grow to like their new role. Many gremlins end up in this situation and some even become high-ranking members in the society that they have joined.

Gremlins themselves are admired for their optimism and happy nature but their communities are disliked because of their effect on society.

Alignment

Gremlins are usually chaotic good, helpful and free in spirit, however there are some gremlins that are from rarer communities or that have grown in a different background that differs from this alignment.

Lands

Gremlins build their settlements close to places of manufacture or mechanics. This means that gremlin communities can be found beneath many trapped tombs, near powerful sorcerers homes, below a weapon smiths workshop. These settlements are very basic and often underground; they range from small settlements of around ten gremlins to large ones that are home to a few thousand. They have little in terms of possessions and have many tunnel networks to the surface for quick escape if necessary.

Gremlins are used to having to move often, therefore they never get too attached to their homes and they always look forward to the inevitable adventure of moving.

Religion

Nearly all gremlins worship Bunshkin the god of gremlins. The disabler’s clerics preach that emotionless machinery should not co-exist alongside the greenery and life of nature. These clerics believe that gremlins help keep the balance of nature.

Language

All Gremlins speak common and gremlin. The gremlin language is a very basic language consisting of whimpers and growls; it has no written language, which means that many gremlins are illiterate. Very few races actually learn gremlin due to its simplistic nature and due to the fact that it is not used among other races.

Names

Gremlins care little for names and often refer to each other simply as Gik (Gremlin for male) and Dri (Gremlin for female). However when a gremlin joins another society it often adopts another name.
