Hey Marasmusine. I just wanted to ask you about this equipment item. I am working with an artist-type game involving stakeholders, realism, etc. Can you let me know what made you create this equipment? How do you intend the context to be applied in-game? Have you considered expanding the artists role to say, including their work to apply to a specific role rather than just an artwork? Did you consider adding a check to find a specific artist, and what would this mean for the environment context? Is there any "end-calculation" that could define the outcome of the artworks, or are the various chances equal? --Green Dragon (talk) 07:15, 26 March 2016 (MDT)

I acknowledge your questions, I'm not sure if my answers will be very interesting!
Can you let me know what made you create this equipment & How do you intend the context to be applied in-game? - I was trying to think of what items the owner of an estate/castle would spend their disposable income on, particularly players who always seem to have too many gold coins. I though commissioning a portrait might be an interesting thing for a self-important PC to do.
Have you considered expanding the artists role to say, including their work to apply to a specific role rather than just an artwork? - No, I'm not sure about that.
Did you consider adding a check to find a specific artist, and what would this mean for the environment context? - I assumed it would be a trivial matter to find an artist in a typical D&D city. There are all kinds of factors (a village might not have any artists; you might have to wait for a particular masterwork artist to become available) that I trust the DM to handle (e.g. with Investigation checks). I'm not sure what the environment context is.
I'm not sure what "outcome of the artworks" could be... do you mean the prestige that the piece might bring? Marasmusine (talk) 08:44, 26 March 2016 (MDT)
Where is size "gargantuan"? I guess that this may not make sense for portraits of course.
I guess that one should use portraits to increase a nobles prestige, and I really appreciate that you mentioned how this relates to the notion of prestige. This is a concept that I need to explore in more detail.
When I asked about the artist's other roles, I am referring to all the fine arts.
I agree that finding a specific artist is probably outside the scope of anyone's game, but I was asking about how this would play out within the community that the portrait is commissioned in (e.g. "Environment"). If the king has a specific artist to convey messages to his people, and the players find him and get him to commission another work like royal clothing for themselves, do they now raise above in the public sphere? For example, are their channels that players can use to give them bonuses on Investigation checks? Thanks! --Green Dragon (talk) 09:06, 27 March 2016 (MDT)
I'm afraid the boring answer is that this all falls under DM adjudication. Marasmusine (talk) 10:31, 18 March 2019 (MDT)
