Through the act of submerging a simple iron "skeleton" into a large vat of water, the cryomancers of the far-northern realms then use magic rituals to freeze the water, and enchant the resulting ice with protective enchantments, whilst imbuing a more of elemental earth into the frame to give it animation. When the slab of ice fractures, and the animated golem breaks out, it emerges covered in layers of hardened ice, wielding a shield and lance made entirely out of the same element. These specially-made creations are forged to guard frigid wizard towers, the ramparts of northern castles, and can also serve their creators as personal bodyguards, due to them being smaller in stature than most golems, but still being heads and shoulders taller than mortal men. Like all other golems, they will obey the orders of their creators with blind, unquestioning loyalty. These frigid constructs carry out their tasks in absolute silence, save for the sounds of cracking and popping ice as they move. |
