Of all the places in the world, the bayou is one of the most superstitious. From these dark and rancid, backwater swamps have sprung many a story of witchdoctors, evil spirits, and monsters. Out of all, however, the one that sends the most children to hid in the closet is the lycanthrope-like rougarou. Bayou Beast. The rougarou hide in the most desolate of swamps, where so few souls live. It's in these places that you'll be most likely to see a rougarou, as they never venture far from home and only travel out of the bayou at night if at all. They wander their rancid territory and strike without prejudice. Rougarou aren't fond of travelers and attack any humanoids in or around their home. Hunger and Violence. While similar in essence to lycanthropy, there is only one way to spawn a rougarou; witchcraft. To create a rougarou, a witch has to cast a specific curse on someone, usually as payback for something, and wait. At first, the afflicted seem completely normal, but a few months after the casting one aspect of the victim changes; their appetite. The cursed will become insatiably hungry for just about whatever is available; this is uncomfortable to witness but does little to draw suspicion of any kind of foul play, much less a curse. However, as it continues, the afflicted will feel random instances of intense aggression and become hungry for one specific item; long pig, or as it's known to most, humanoid flesh. |
