Astral Humans, Silverlings[edit]

Millennia ago, a powerful wizard who researched the Astral Plane infused some of the humans he experimented on with the plane's essence. His test subjects were fundamentally transformed by this infusion, becoming a new supernatural species he dubbed "Astral Humans", though they quickly gained the nickname Silverlings, because their eyes turn sheening silver when they are excited or angered. Silverlings can alter their own appearance and learn languages supernaturally quickly, and possess an incredibly long lifespan. Thanks to their nature, they are immune to many of the unnatural effects of the Astral Plane and other planes of existence.

While the wizard did not survive very long after the Silverlings' creation (he died when his last experiment turned out to be far too powerful for his magic to contain) the Silverlings endured, becoming an independent race. They live in their own communities as well as among other races.

Personality[edit]

Silverlings are similar enough to ordinary humans in terms of personality; they are generally neutral toward most humanoid races, but are intolerant of races that are considered evil or savage. Most Silverlings aren't extremists and simply wish to live their (albeit incredibly long) lives at peace.

Physical Description[edit]

Silverlings are outwardly identical to ordinary humans; However, when a Silverling experience intense emotions, their eyes turn sheening silver. Their anatomy is almost identical, but not entirely. Also, Silverlings maintain their strength and vitality even into advanced old age.

Racial Traits[edit]

  • +2 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom, +4 Charisma. Silverlings are agile, alert and charismatic.
  • Medium Humanoid (Astral, Human): Silverlings are a supernatural branch of humanity infused with the very essence of the Astral Plane.
  • Silverling base land speed is 40 feet per round. In addition, they have flight speed (perfect maneuverability) 60 feet per round; their connection to the Astral Plane allows Silverlings to defy gravity.
  • Alter Appearance (Su): Silverlings can manipulate their own appearance; this can vary from merely altering their physical features (changing their hair/eye color) to completely replicating the shape of another person, down to their fingerprints. They can also alter their clothes, even conjure up new ones. Silverlings can even do things such as drying themselves after they got wet or fixing their clothes if they were burned. Silverlings retain their own ability scores and features regardless of their shape, and can receive extraordinary abilities and traits from the features they assume (for instance, the ability to breath underwater via gills). However, if they assume the shape of an individual, they gain none of their memories/skills. Furthermore, they can only assume shapes of their natural size category and the adjacent ones.
  • Supernatural Endurance: Silverlings are highly resistant and can endure damage that would prove lethal for other humanoids. However, magical weapons can bypass their durability and fatally injure them. They have damage reduction 5/magic.
  • Temperature Resistance: Silverlings are highly resistant, and can endure temperature extremes better than most humanoids. They have resistance 5 to cold and fire.
  • Healing Factor: Silverlings regenerate very quickly, enabling them to survive injuries that would prove lethal for other humanoids. They can regrow many organs and can also surgically reattach lost appendages even days after their detachment. Silverlings have fast healing 1 and restore 1 point of ability damage per minute and 1 point of drained ability per hour.
  • Heightened Senses: Silverlings possess acute senses; they have Blindsense out to 30 feet, Scent within 30 feet, Darkvision out to 120 feet and Low-Light Vision(*4).
  • Advanced Linguist: Silverlings are innately incredibly gifted linguists and can learn new languages with very little effort and time. They don't need to spend skill points to learn new languages; instead, they can get the basics of a language merely by spending an hour listening to someone speaking this language. In addition, they can get the basics of a language's writing system by spending an hour browsing a book or some other adequately rich document written in said language. Most Silverlings don't need to invest more than a day to master a language; if this language is similar to another they already know, it will take them even less. This ability enables Silverlings to use the Decipher Script skill untrained.
  • Planer Adaptation: Silverlings aren't subject to the following planar traits: Dead Magic, Entrapping, Impeded Magic, Limited Magic and Timeless. They never suffer penalties due to planar alignment.
  • Spell-Like Abilities: Once per encounter - Dimension Door. Caster level is equal to 10 + their HD. The save DC is Charisma-based.
  • Silverlings automatically receive the following feats even if they do not meet their prerequisites: Endurance, Eschew Materials, Iron Will, Lightning Reflexes and Two-Weapon Fighting.
  • Silverlings gain an additional +4 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Search, Sense Motive and Spot checks.
  • Automatic Languages: Common, Arcane. Bonus Languages: Any.
  • Favored Class: Any.
  • Level Adjustment: +8
