The face eater is a hateful abomination designed by a mad wizard who made their home in the blackest pits of the Underdark. Essentially a miniaturized Cloaker, they were released in droves to keep the surrounding tunnels clear of vermin. It is said that not a month went by before that same wizard fell prey to his own creations. Treacherous Visage. Face eaters resemble a hybrid fusion of bat and moth, gliding silently through the darkness in the caverns they call home. Their fleshy wings bear mask-like patterns, which they can shape to a limited degree to more closely resemble the surfaces they land on. They have no eyes, instead sensing their environment through movement, and their underside is one long orifice that acts as both mouth and stomach. To feed, they latch onto a creature and eject acid into its flesh. Devouring Swarm. Face eaters are rarely found as solitary predators. Though they will hunt alone in lean times, they nest in groups of at least half a dozen, usually in tight, nigh-unreachable crevices. When faced with a large enough enemy, they will descend en masse and devour them whole, leaving nothing but a bile-drenched skeleton. |
