Milesan

The milesan made their first appearance on Versumi some time during the Age of Magic. What is known is that they are not of this world and possibly even come from the Far Plane. Despite this, they seem to take the appearance of other races in the world, notably that of humans, elves, or dwarves.

Physical Description

Milesans look no different from the races they are able to take the appearance of.

History

After the Eldritch War, the planet of Versumi had been encased within a magical barrier that prevented the Daemons and gods from entering the world. However, this barrier also prevented the natural cycle of magic, preventing it's natural decay. Because of this, magic continued to grow and empower itself. Soon, magic had grown beyond what the world could hold.

As magic overflowed, the walls of reality began to crumble. The Keepers - the guardians of the world - deemed that the only means to prevent reality from collapsing was to create a hole for magic to overflow into. As a hole in the barrier would allow the Eldritch Gods to assault the world once more, they instead opened a hole into the Void. This, however, brought with it the dangers of the denizens of the Void.

The creatures of the Void who were known as "the fomorians" would soon begin to flow into the world, but just as danger came, so did salvation. A race of spiritual beings came through the Void and manifested themselves as beings of the world. They were powerful, able to learn to handle any power they were given within just a few hours or even minutes. They were also, essentially, immortal. They became known as the milesans, a name meaning "Children of the Stars".

Though their bodies could die, the spirits of the milesans were bound to a place known as the Spirit Stream. Because of this, they were able to revive themselves from death. They could even change their form and take any appearance or gender seemingly at will through a process they call "Rebirthing".

And so, as the fomorians began to attack the world, the milesans flooded into our world, driving them into the underground after the First War of Mag Tuired. Still, the Fomorians refused to surrender. They banded together and summoned forth a terrible monster from the Void known as the Glas Gaihbnenn.

With bones made of adamantine, a breath able to spread disease and decay, massive wings, and four arms wielding impossibly huge weapons, the world was doomed. Yet, the milesans did not give up.

Because of their immortality, the milesans had no trouble giving up their lives to face against the Glas Gaihbnenn. With the armies of man combined with an army of milesans, the Glas Gaihbnenn fell and the fomorians were forced back into the underground once more.

Nuadha, the man who lead the armies of man, then brought together the many races and founded the city of Tara which now sits as the capital of the Kingdom of Ulahd. Despite many wishing to mourn the deaths of the milesans who fought in the war, the milesans instead held a festival to celebrate the end of the war as their comrades returned to life.

And so, the fighting between the fomorians and the milesans continues to this day. But the milesans never give up or surrender to the beasts. No matter how many milesans fall, they just return to continue the fight.

Milesans now also tell of a goddess who watches over the Spirit Stream. Some call her the Raven Goddess while others call her The Morrighan. She is said in some tales to be a beautiful goddess in a white dress with raven black hair while others describe her as a goddess dressed in black with flowing red hair. Perhaps both of these stories are true? If the milesans can change their appearance, perhaps their goddess can as well.

Society

Milesans themselves don't have places they consider homes. Instead, because of their immortality, many of them are adventurers. This also tends to cause them to be a bit brash, arrogant, and even reckless. Still, most of them are of good or neutral alignment and very few have ever even heard of a milesan going bad. In the interests of being social, milesans will create guilds with other milesans. Those who do take up ordinary lives tend to live most with the race that they have taken the form of.

Milesan Names

Milesan tend to take the names of the race they have taken the form of.

Milesan Traits

The "Children of the Stars", people believe they may come from the Far Plane.
Ability Score Increase. You can choose to increase either your Strength, Constitution, or Intelligence score by 1.
Age. Milesans perceive the world in a vastly different manner than those native of the world. Milesans are also immortal, but they usually take the form of someone whose age is between 10 and 17. Milesan bodies also seem to age a full year within a week's time.
Alignment. Because Milesans are immortal, they tend to be a bit more brash, arrogant, and even reckless. Most Milesans are of either good or neutral alignment.
Size. You are the size of the race you have taken the form of (see Soul of Another World trait).
Speed. Your base walking speed is the same as the race you have taken the form of (see Soul of Another World trait).
Soul of Another World. As a Milesan, you come from another world. Your life is tied to a place known as the Spirit Stream. Upon leaving the Spirit Stream, your body takes the forms of either an elf, dwarf, or human. You gain all of the traits of whichever race you choose, but you do not take a subrace.
Milesan Immortality.. Being a soul of another world, you are effectively immortal. Whenever you age, you can instead choose to be "reborn". At this time, any characteristics of your appearance can change, including your age, hair style and color, facial features, etc. You cannot age passed your current physical age, but you can become as young as 10 years old. You also cannot change your race. You also cannot truly die. Instead, upon death, your soul returns to the Spirit Stream. You can then choose to be reborn the next morning, or to pass on to another world.
Milesan Proficiencies.. While you are initially proficient with only what your race and class are proficient with, you can gain proficiency in any weapon, armor, tool, or instrument by training with it for a full day. You can also learn languages in a quarter of the time it takes a race to normally learn languages.
Psionic Power. You gain the ability to innately cast mind sliver (5e UA spell). At 10th Level, you can cast mind thrust (5e UA spell) without expending a spell slot, but you must take a long rest to regain the use of this ability. You use your Intelligence modifier for these spells. At 15th Level, you gain a second use of mind thrust, and now have enough mastery over your psionic abilities to fly, gaining a flight speed of 30 feet.
Languages. You know the languages of the race you have taken the form of (see Soul of Another World trait). You can also speak telepathically to any creature within 60 feet that understands a language. You do not need to share a language to speak in this way.
