Elementalist Wizard

An elementalist is a specialist wizard focused on the art of evocation spells. Beyond even traditional evokers, these elementalists dedicate themselves wholly to the mastery of one specific element which they favor above all others.

Class Features

All of the following are features of the elementalist's wizard substitution levels.

Elementalist Spells (Ex): A wizard who takes the 1st-level elementalist substitution level can prepare and cast the following evocation spells at the indicated spell level rather than at their normal spell level: 0th: burning hands and shocking grasp; 1st: scorching ray and shatter; 2nd: fireball and sound lance (SpC); 3rd: acidic vortex; 4th: cone of cold; 5th: chain lightning. In addition, you automatically add two evocation spells to your spellbook each level and you treat all evocation spells you know as if they were mastered with the Spell Mastery feat. In exchange for these benefits, you sacrifice your ability to summon a familiar at 1st level. (Ed. Note: This ability is based off the Gnomish Illusionist substitution levels from Races of Stone).

Energy Substition (Ex): You gain Energy Substitution as a bonus feat instead of Scribe Scroll.

Elemental Focus (Ex): A wizard who takes the 2nd-level elementalist substitution level develops an affinity for one particular type of elemental magic. When casting a spell with the same keyword as their Energy Substitution feat, their effective caster level is increased by +1 and either its range or duration is increased by 50% (decided at the time of casting). If they have learned Energy Substitution more than once, these benefits apply to all applicable spells of the appropriate types.

Elemental Familiar (Ex): A 6th-level elementalist can obtain a Small elemental as a familiar. The elemental’s hit points are equal to its normal hit points or one half its master’s hit points, whichever are greater. The elemental familiar does not gain the ability to speak with animals, but does gain the proper elemental language appropriate to its type (auran, terran, etc.). This familiar otherwise functions identically to the standard sorcerer’s familiar ability, but only gains the additional benefits of a familiar five levels lower than its master's class level.
