Godspawn[edit]

Warning: Consult with your DM before choosing this background, as it is OP in some aspects, such as customization options. Some DM's may opt to choose your proficiencies themselves, or just say to choose a different background.

You were created by a god, your Master. Perhaps you are sworn to do his/her bidding. Perhaps your god allows you to have free will. Did your god create you in his/her image? Did he/she grant you your class? Or were you free to find your role in life? This background is fairly flexible, and can be incorporated in almost any world. If desired, your god may be a demon or devil. Your master may even be a highly powerful monster. Your DM will determine if your Master is valid, and how your Master's identity affects the campaign.

-This background also requires a little bit of research; what does your Master specialize in? What would be THEIR alignment? What languages do they speak most often? Remember that gods aren't ultra-lingual; if you choose God for instance, he probably wouldn't imbue you with the ability to speak Infernal. As always, consult your DM, and perhaps other players in your group, about these decisions of opinion.-

Skill Proficiencies: Your god grants you 2 skill proficiencies. These may be chosen by the DM, or chosen by the player as logical skills associated with your master.

Tool Proficiencies: Your master makes you proficient with two tools of logical association to himself/herself.

Languages: One language (Usually Celestial) that your Master speaks.

Equipment: An unsellable, undroppable ring or necklace with your Master's symbol carved upon it (to identify you as his or her spawn), common clothes, the tools granted proficiency by your master, and a pouch containing 10 gold.

Feature: Master's Assistance[edit]

You may ask your Master for assistance with small tasks such as deciphering runes or ancient writings, changing surrounding weather, striking down a nonbeliever, or other such favors. Your DM decides if your Master accepts your request and how they go about it. Your DM may also determine how effectively your Master performs the favor (how much they care/want to still challenge you). Your Master may help you on the condition that you do something for him/her; such as a quest. You must be careful with this feature, however, as constantly pestering your Master may cause them to do the COMPLETE OPPOSITE. Again, your DM has full control over how this plays out.

Alternate Feature: Master's Influence[edit]

Your master is a powerful being, and as his/her creation, you are treated with due respect and/or fear. Townsfolk tend to let minor crimes go unpunished; such as not paying for food or a night at the inn. Punishments for major crimes may be lessened if your Master is highly feared or respected.

Whichever feature you choose, you also gain immortality in the sense that age can not cause your death or weaken you. You must, however, still eat, sleep, and breathe.

Suggested Characteristics[edit]

You may either choose these or make up your own based on your Master and your purpose.

d8 Personality Trait
1 As stoic as my Master, I rarely show emotion.
2 My Master has released me upon this world to embark on an epic quest.
3 I was created from mere dirt and dust, and am still amazed by such powers my Master possesses.
4 My god likes to play small pranks on me, such as levitating my bed or turning my sword into a snake outside of battle.
5 My Master taught me my powers, and as such, I feel confident in my abilities.
6 People say a god created me, but my memory is fuzzy...
7 My Master created me, then sent me on my way. I didn't even get a creation day party.
8 My Master says I must earn his respect... How do you earn a god's respect?
d6 Ideal
1 Free Will. My Master doesn't often tell me what to do. I like it that way. (Chaotic)
2 Order. I was created to keep some sort of balance in this world. (Good or Lawful)
3 Wrath. Any in my way will experience the power my Master imbued in me. (Evil)
4 Obedience. I do what my master commands to the letter. (Lawful)
5 Neutrality. The trivial matters of mortals are not to be interfered with unless my Master commands it. (Neutral)
6 Curiosity. I wish to see what powers my master imbued me with. (Any)
d6 Bond
1 I seek friendship with most mortals I encounter in an attempt to connect more to this world.
2 I hold my powers above all else; even those mortals who aid me.
3 I swear fealty to my Master and no one else.
4 I have a sweetheart, although he/she is a mortal.
5 I try not to get attached to mortals, as they tend to die.
6 I am secretly in love with my Master.
d6 Flaw
1 My Master's enemies will stop at nothing to destroy me.
2 I treat all mortals as what they are; mere pawns of the gods.
3 I have a habit of drinking far too much at taverns in an attempt to seem invulnerable.
4 My Master forbids me from refusing a challenge.
5 My Master sees me as a failed experiment.
6 I often confuse my immortality with invulnerability.
