What stands before you is a humanoid grafted from fine clockwork, covered in and protected by seamless plates. Although their numbers suggest mass production, it is hard to believe that any power can churn out so many of these complex automatons.

Gear Actua are the remnants of a once powerful civilization, enduring in their lifeless automated state where organic bodies long since failed. Their template bodies are 6 feet tall and weigh 260 pounds, but individual Actua trade and scavenge for usable components in order to upgrade themselves and others. In their lifeless eyes otherwise shines a reasonably benign intelligence that, despite their impaired self-awareness, has developed the close-knit society in which they live today.

Combat

Although not specialized for battle purposes, Gear Actua can defend themselves with their slam attacks, but otherwise leave the defense of their giant metal metropolises to Gears specially designed to fight.

Gear Body (Ex): Unlike normal constructs, a Gear's body is susceptible to critical hits and sneak attacks, but only if the observer knows what to aim for. An observer must make a successful DC 15 Knowledge (architecture and engineering) check to find the Gear's weak spots. If the observer succeeds, the particular Gear's body becomes vulnerable to critical hits and sneak attacks made by the observer (but not by anyone else). If the observer's check fails, he may not perform another such check in relation to that specific Gear until he gains at least 1 new rank in Knowledge (architecture and engineering).

Gear Head (Ex): Gear Actua have a +4 racial bonus to all Knowledge (architecture and engineering) checks and to any Craft check related to metal and to engineering. They never take a -2 penalty to any such Craft check due to lacking equipment. The +4 racial bonus is also added to the DC of the Actua's Gear Body. Lastly, Knowledge (architecture and engineering) is considered a class skill for all of a Gear Actua's classes.
