Petrifying Gaze If a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of the basilisk and the two of them can see each other, the basilisk can force the creature to make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw if the basilisk isn't incapacitated. On a failed save, the creature magically begins to turn to stone and is restrained. It must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn. On a success, the effect ends. On a failure, the creature is petrified until freed by the greater restoration spell or other magic. A creature that isn't surprised can avert its eyes to avoid the saving throw at the start of its turn. If it does so, it can't see the basilisk until the start of its next turn, when it can avert its eyes again. If it looks at the basilisk in the meantime, it must immediately make the save. If the basilisk sees its reflection within 30 feet of it in bright light, it mistakes itself for a rival and targets itself with its gaze

ACTIONS

Multi-attack The basilisk matriarch makes 2 attacks each round, one with its Tail and one with its Bite or two with its Bite.

Acid Spray (Recharge 5-6) The Basilisk Matriarch spits out acid in a 20 foot cone in front of itself. Creatures in the area make a DC 14 Dex save, taking 13 (3d8) Acid damage on a failed save and half as much on a successful save.

Tail Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (2d6) Bludgeoning damage.
Creatures hit by the tail attack must pass a DC 14 STR/DEX save or be grappled by the Basilisk Monarch. Creatures grappled in this way cannot move, have disadvantage attacking any creature other than the Basilisk Matriarch, and may not attack any other creature with a melee attack. The Basilisk Matriarch may not use its tail attack while it has a creature grappled. A creature may attempt the save during each of their turns.

Bite Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 2) Piercing damage + 7 (2d6) Acid damage.
If the target is a Medium or smaller creature grappled by the Basilisk Matriarch, that creature is swallowed, and the grapple ends. While swallowed, the creature is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and effects outside the Basilisk Matriarch, and it takes 13 (3d8) Acid damage at the start of each of the Basilisk Matriarch's turns. If the Basilisk Matriarch takes 15 damage or more on a single turn from creatures inside it, the Basilisk Matriarch must succeed a DC 16 CON check or regurgitate all swallowed creatures, which fall prone in a space within 10ft of the Basilisk Matriarch. If the Basilisk Matriarch dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape with 10ft of movement, exiting prone.
