Sky-Fae Half-Breeds

Legends state that the sky faeries that lived thousands of years ago were once a peaceful subrace of fae who worshipped and lived among the skies. However, they were also well-known for their amazing healing aura, and were hunted down to extinction by the humans. One wizard in particular took the last sky fae and used her as part of a cross-breeding experiment. The female gave birth to two children that were part sky-fae and part human, then the female was killed to keep her quiet about what had happened. The offspring were separated at birth, but both managed to escape the wizard’s vile clutches and reunite with each other. They then gave birth to the future generations of sky-fae half-breeds that reinstated the pure sky-fae traditions.

Personality

Amongst their own kin, sky-fae half-breeds are kind, playful, and rather naive. They love to frolic in the skies and amongst the clouds. They continue with the peaceful pure sky-fae traditions that were followed thousands of years ago. They enjoy the study of exotic herbs and spices. While they initially dislike fighting, they will defend their homes without hesitation. While a few use crafted weapons, many of them prefer to fight unarmed.

Physical Description

Sky-fae half-breeds generally stand between four and four and a half feet tall and weigh between 60 to 70 pounds, with males being the same height and only slightly heavier than females. Their most prominent feature is their skin, which is a deep yet vibrant blue. Their faces turn a brighter blue as a sign of “growing pale” and become a barely noticeable shade of purple when flustered or embarrassed. Their build is slender, but females tend to have wider hips because they always give birth to twins (most commonly fraternal twins of same or opposing sexes; identical twins are a rarity among them). Their ears are much longer than even an elf’s ears and tend to stick outwards. Their hair is long, silky, and brightly colored, varying from light blonde to an almost snow white, and their eyes can be any shade of green. They prefer clothing of simple and practical design, but have them beautifully embroidered. They are considered adults at age 40 and have a typical life span of 400 years, though a rare few have lived to see their 600th birthday.

Relations

Sky-fae half-breeds are rather shy around other common races, but given time, they will open up to them. They feel most comfortable around elves (since they are nature-oriented and carefree) and half-elves (since they also share human blood). Humans, halflings, and gnomes take a little more getting used to, whereas they feel completely uncomfortable around dwarves and half-orcs.

Alignment

Sky-fae half-breeds are almost all good, but like humans, they favor law and chaos in equal proportions. Some wish to fight for the greater good, some wish to strive for order and justice, while others live a carefree life of joy and goodness.

Lands

Sky-fae half-breed villages are few and far between, as they like to make their homes in forests atop high mesas. They are constructed amongst the treetops and are cleverly hidden from the ground’s view. They are difficult to reach by foot, so they trade by the airways. It is a rare thing to encounter a sky-fae half-breed in human lands, but those rare few generally work as herbalists, medical scholars, or performers of song and dance.

Religion

The sky-fae half-breeds worship Raenah, goddess of the skies, just as the pure sky-fae did a long time ago. However, some have also come to idolize Aine, the first sky-fae half-breed, as another deity, for she gave birth to their kind. Regardless of who they worship (or both), sky-fae half-breeds are extremely devoted and follow their goddesses’ ways passionately. A few have also been known to pay their respects to Ehlonna or Obad-Hai.

Language

Sky-fae half-breeds have their own unique language called Wind-writing, which shares the elvish script. They also encourage the study of Sylvan, the language of all fae. They use the Wind-writing when speaking amongst their own kin and in stories and poems, whereas Sylvan is used in their songs and celebrations.

Names

In accordance with pure sky-fae traditions, the sky-fae half-breeds are given names by their parents and their village elders. Since they always give birth to fraternal twins (identical ones are a rarity among them) two names may sound very similar to one another. They use sky-fae names, but may also dabble in human or elf names as well.

Racial Traits

  • +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, -2 Constitution, -2 Wisdom: Sky-fae half-breeds are quite agile and possess a sort of exotic beauty, but like their pure ancestors, they are rather frail beings, and they are also quite naive.
  • Humanoid (Fey)
  • Medium: As medium creatures, sky-fae half-breeds have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Sky-fae half-breed base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Flight (Sp): Twice per day, a sky-fae half-breed can fly as if she had a fly spell cast upon herself, only that she can maintain the flight longer at 3 min./level. Other than this, it works the same as a normal fly spell.
  • Low-Light Vision: A sky-fae half-breed can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
  • Healing: Once per hour, a sky-fae half-breed can heal herself of 1d8 plus her charisma modifier hit points; The pure sky faeries had powerful self-healing auras, but these auras are weaker in their half-human counterparts.
  • +2 racial bonus on Knowledge (nature) checks and Survival checks; Sky-fae half-breeds have a vast understanding of plant life and how to survive in the wilderness.
  • +3 racial bonus on Listen checks; Sky-fae half-breeds have very keen ears.
  • Automatic Languages: Common, Wind-writing. Bonus Languages: Sylvan, Elvish, Auran, Halfling, Draconic, Giant, and Celestial.
  • Favored Class: Any. When determining whether a multiclass sky-fae half-breed takes an experience point penalty, her highest level class does not count (see XP for Multiclass Characters, pg. 60). NOTE: Sky-fae half-breeds don’t encourage the study of wizardry. In fact, they discourage it. Wizards were the main reason that the pure sky faeries had come to extinction, and so the half-breeds hate the bookish wizards with a passion, though this has become more and more subtle over the generations.
