The Rat-Men

Personality

Victims of mad experiments many decades ago, the rat-men are the shadiest and most mysterious of all the ani-men. They prefer the shadows over the light and will not hesitate to take from others. Most rat-men have lived difficult lives and have spent many days in the streets. Because of that, they have a very low regard for the law, preferring to live by their own code. Many people view the rat-men with a hint of suspiscion because of the reputation they gained over the years.

Physical Description

Rat-men normally stand around 5'2" to 5'7" and usually weigh around 115 to 130 pounds, with the women being a bit shorter and lighter. Rat-men have pale skin, and they long, black hair growing on their chest, face, shins, and forearms. The men's hair never grows more than a few inches, while the women's hair is only a few inches longer. The rat-men's faces are a combination of their rat and human nature. It is human-shaped, but also consists of an elongated mouth and pointed ears. All rat-men have black eyes, as well.

Relations

Since all rat-men have some aspect of human in them, they get along fairly well with them. Patient rat-men have been known to create friendships with dwarves, though most of them do not like their long process of friendship. Rat-men in Eberron get along well with the Warforged because of their odd similarities.

Rat-men live for a long time, reaching adulthood at age 24 and being able to live well into their third century.

Alignment

Rat-men are usually neutral or chaotic neutral. They despise law, viewing it as a hindrance rather than a help, but they are not pure anarchists because they believe in having your own personal code. Rat-men are not known for having a strong moral compass, though they sometimes do the occasional good or evil deed.

Lands

Rat-men, like the rest of the ani-men, claim no lands as their own. Nevertheless, you can often small groups of rat-men in various cities. They are often found scurrying in the cities underworld as they feel that is where they belong.

Religion

Rat-men are not privy to deities or prayers, and they often do not practice a religion. However, those who take up the thieving trade will sometimes make the occasional prayer to Olidammara, the god of thieves.

Language

Rat-men speak Common and Sylvan. They are also capable of learning a large number of additional languages.
