Blightful. When the wither tree kills a creature, it withers and releases blightful spores. Any creature within 5 feet of the corpse must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or take 9 (2d8) necrotic damage.

ACTIONS

Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage.

Withering Spores (1/Day). The wither tree releases a wave of withering spores within a 10-foot radius centered on itself. Any creature within the area must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or take 18 (4d8) necrotic damage.

Grasping Roots (Recharge 5-6). Roots spring up from the ground in a 10-foot square within 15 feet of the wither tree. Creatures within the area must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or be grappled and take 10 (3d6) bludgeoning damage. That area is considered difficult terrain until the tree is killed or the roots are moved.


Wither trees can be created when blight infects a forest, they can be easily mistaken for a normal tree if someone is not paying attention. They stand between sixteen to twenty-five feet tall, covered in thick black bark that cracks with a subtle green light. Few to no leaves hang from the crooked branches, any that do still remain are withered and shrunken, completely lifeless. An aura of blight spores radiates around the tree but they are too few and far between to be potent.
