Bears

Personality

Bears are typically used as wild encounters by DMs for their campaigns. Simple, yet also deadly, a bear can be a formidable opponent for lower level players. When controlled by adventurers, however, these characteristics tend to vanish. Players who select the race of Bear tend to have the goal of chaos in the campaign and ignore all basics of Bear Personality. However, this is personality, and players choosing bear play with the end game of destruction or disruption.

Physical Description

Bears tend to have large bodies with stocky legs, long snouts, shaggy hair, paws with five nonretractible claws, and short tails. Depending on region of origin they vary in color from white, to brown, to black, to any mixture of these.

Relations

Bears are not a very social breed in part to the strong language barrier between them and most species. They tend to be kind towards druids and other guardians of the forest as such. This does not stop them from acting aggressive to anyone threatening them, their group, or their habitat.

Alignment

Bears are naturally a neutral species. However, player controlled Bears have a higher chance of tending towards the chaotic side of things.

Lands

Bear lands are very peaceful as a whole. Though their grunts and growls come across as primitive it enables them proper communication. They use this, along with other means, to establish order and territories. With the expansion of Humans into the wilderness some bears have taken to raids on food locations rather than the typical hunting of their kind.

Religion

Bears don't have faith.

Language

Bears communicate through varying instances of vocal manipulation. Moaning is produced mostly as mild warnings to potential threats or in fear. Barking is produced during times of alarm, excitement or to give away the animal's position. Huffing is used during courtship or between mother and cubs to warn of danger. Growling is produced as strong warnings to potential threats or in anger. Roaring is used much for the same reasons as growls and also to proclaim territory and for intimidation. Humming is a loud monotonous buzzing sound, primarily employed by cubs.

Names

Bears have no concept of names in nature. Those who are used by players, though, develop ill fitting names as a result of their lack of comprehension of the world. These names tend to be objects they enjoyed as wild bears or places they recognize.
