The Verge of Dreams

The Verge of Dreams (often simply called The Verge) is where The Evanescent Realm overlaps The Dream. It the medium through which dreamers reach dreams in sleep, newborn spirits meet mortal flesh in birth, and souls their final destination in death. Prior to the visitation, the Verge would not have been considered a distinct realm unto itself Rather, just the province of The Dream closest to the mortal world. Following the events of the Visitation and the Purge of Sanctuary, the Verge was changed. What once was a thoroughfare became an obstruction and a treacherous one at that. Now the Verge is distinguished as a roiling confluence of spirits and ephemera, impeding the passage of dreamers and souls alike.

Burden of Souls. The cacophony of souls and the weight of intense spiritual currents is overwhelming to mortal creatures. At the end of each short or long rest taken on the Verge, a visitor must make a DC 10 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the traveler gains one level of exhaustion, which can't be removed while the creature remains on this plane.
