Bone Caster[edit]

Bonecasters are spellcasters who use their own skeletal structure to wield powerful bone-based magic. They can manipulate their bones to create weapons, projectiles, and protective barriers, making them versatile and formidable in combat. However, their magic comes at the cost of physical strain, as each spell causes minor harm to their bodies.

Making a Bone Caster[edit]

The Bone Caster is an excellent Defense and ranged class depending on the Constitution and dexterity stat. Bone Caster get the ability to freely control their Bones and shape it into Spike, Armor or projectiles but must use their HP to create them.

Abilities: <Bone Control Bone Manipulation Regeneration>.

Races: any

Alignment: Any

Starting Gold: 2d12x10 gp.

Starting Age: The normal age for this class should be Moderate (such as a fighter). This is so the character has had time to learn to control their abilities to the extent that they would be proficient in their use. Alternatively, a character may be younger if they are naturally talented, and may apply the simple age modifier (such as a rogue).

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Bone Caster

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Bone Casters are proficient with all simple weapons, with their own blood weapon and bullet, and all types of armor.

Weapon Focus(Bone Weapon and Bone Shard): The Deadman gains weapon focus with both his melee and ranged attack.

Bone Control (Su): Upon taking a level in Bonecaster, the character gains the ability to control their bones at will. They can use this ability to create weapons, tools, and other objects. The Bonecaster must be conscious and can only freely control their bones within 5 feet of themselves, unless it is part of a weapon.

Bone Shard (Su): At 1st level, the Bonecaster can draw 1 HP worth of their own bones and morph it into a projectile, which is then fired at a target for 1d6 damage. The damage of the Bone Shard increases with the amount of HP used. The Bone Shard is a 60 ft. ranged touch attack. The control over bones determines the amount of HP used: 1 HP = 1d6, 2 HP = 2d6, 3 HP = 3d6, and so on.

Fast Healing (Ex): The Bonecaster heals their wounds very quickly. Upon taking the Bonecaster class, they gain Fast Healing 1, which heals 1 HP per round. This increases by 1 HP at levels 3, 6, 9, and 12.

Bone Armor (Su): At 2nd level, the Bonecaster can create an exoskeleton of bone armor around themselves. This ability takes 2 HP to summon and 1 HP to maintain each turn. Bone Armor grants +2 AC for every 2 HP put into it and can only be used on the Bonecaster, as it causes their bones to overgrow, creating multiple wounds.

Bone Weapon (Su): At 2nd level, the Bonecaster can create weapons using their bones. This ability takes 1 HP to summon and 1 HP to maintain. At 1st level, they can create both simple and martial weapons, as well as ranged weapons.

Larger Bone Weapons (Ex): Additionally at 3rd level, the Bonecaster can create medium and large weapons. Medium weapons cost 2 HP to make, and large weapons cost 3 HP. They can also create two-handed weapons.

Bone Wings (Su): At 3rd level, the Bonecaster can create bone wings that allow them to fly up to 60 feet per turn. This ability takes 1 HP to maintain and requires a swift action to activate.

Bone Shield (Su): At 3rd level, the Bonecaster can create a bone shield that grants +2 AC. This ability takes 1 HP to use and 1 HP to maintain.

Bone Spikes (Su): At 4th level, the Bonecaster can summon bone spikes anywhere within 20 feet of themselves. This ability takes 2 HP to create and deals 2d6 damage per turn to any creature in the area of effect.

Dual Bone Use (Su): At 4th level, the Bonecaster can use two of their abilities in one turn. This ability takes the same amount of HP for both actions used.

Bonus Feat: At 5th level, the Bonecaster gains a bonus feat of their choice. This feat must be one for which the Bonecaster meets the prerequisites.

Bone Reshape (Su): At 5th level, the Bonecaster gains the ability to reshape their bone attacks to deal blunt damage instead of piercing or slashing damage. This applies to all bone-based attacks except for Bone Weapon and Bone Shield.

Alignment Affinity (Su): At 6th level, the Bonecaster can choose one of three abilities based on their alignment:

Evil: The Bonecaster's bone attacks deal an extra 1d2 necrotic damage.

Good: The Bonecaster's bone attacks deal an extra 1d2 radiant damage.

Neutral: The Bonecaster's bone attacks deal an extra 1d2 acid damage.

These additional damage types are applied to all bone-based attacks, including Bone Shard, Bone Spikes, and Bone Weapon.

Bone Follower (Su): At 7th level, the Bonecaster can create a non-sentient follower in the shape and size of a creature one level or more lower than them. This follower has the same stat block as the chosen creature but only has half the Bonecaster's maximum hit points unless the chosen creature already has less. The Bone Follower can be used once per day, lasts for 12 hours, and can attack, but doing so requires the Bonecaster's action (You Also have to have Actually Seen The Creature Before otherwise you cannot put it in that creatures Form (Also the amount of hitpoints the creature has it will take that many hitpoints away from you.

Bone Tracking (Su): At 7th level, the Bonecaster gains the ability to track the location of their bones at all times. They can use this ability to spy on people, but doing so requires an entire action.

Ability Score Increase (Ex): At 4th,8th,12th,16th level, the Bonecaster gains a +2 increase to any ability score of their choice, or they can increase two different ability scores by 1 each.

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing a Bone Caster[edit]

Religion: Bonecasters typically have a pragmatic approach to religion, focusing more on the practical aspects of their abilities rather than spiritual or divine matters.

Other Classes: Bonecasters are often seen as peculiar and unsettling by members of other classes due to their unique and macabre abilities. Their manipulation of their own bones and the gruesome nature of their powers can make others view them with a mix of curiosity, fear, and disdain.

Combat: Bonecasters excel in both offensive and defensive roles, making them a versatile addition to any combat scenario. Their unique abilities allow them to adapt to the needs of their party, whether that involves taking hits, dealing damage, or controlling the battlefield. Their combat effectiveness grows as they level up, gaining new abilities that enhance their survivability and damage potential.

Advancement: Bonecasters typically focus on enhancing their bone manipulation abilities for both offense and defense but mostly defense.

Bone Caster in the World[edit]

My bones are my weapons, my shield, and my eyes in the shadows. They are my essence, and through them, I am unbreakable.
—Serik, Orc Bone Caster

Bonecasters are often regarded with a mix of fear and curiosity. Their unique abilities to manipulate their bones for combat and utility make them versatile yet unsettling figures. They typically fit into roles where their talents can be used for espionage, combat, or healing, but their eerie nature often keeps them on the fringes of society.

Daily Life: Due to their abilities, in more conservative areas, they are shunned for their abilities.

Notables: Grog the orc

Organizations: Bonecasters mostly congregate in the form of cults or packs. These groups often assemble in secluded areas, such as hidden temples, remote caves, or abandoned buildings, where they can practice their abilities away from the scrutiny and fear of the general populace.

NPC Reactions: Most NPCs find Bonecasters to be weird and unsettling due to their macabre abilities. However, among less sensitive or more open-minded races, Bonecasters can be seen as intriguing and even cool for their unique talents. Reactions vary greatly depending on cultural norms and individual tolerance for the Bonecaster's unusual practices.
