Black Blood Angel[edit]

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
—Revelations 12:9

Physical Description[edit]

Creatures of beauty in both mind and body, they were crafted to form the ideal of beauty by their creator. They served their deity following their tenets. Usually they stood of similar or taller, lither build than that of a human. These angels are wholly humanoid, but they have skin that is black, as the blood coursing through has darkened them inside and out. They often have hair even blacker than their skin, and eyes that are a creepy blank white. From these eyes, single lines of white run down their faces down around their jaw and end up fading around their collar areas. These are their supposed tears of atonement. Holding the grace of their deity, they once had wings of a snow white image. These have now been tarnished and are tainted black to mark their betrayal.

History[edit]

These angels are pitiful beings who were once the lower-tier of servants fervently serving their powerful deity of creation. Among them was a devil. He enticed many of them to resent the deity for rewarding their hard work with so little overt appreciation. Many of these servants, not exactly the brightest of the bunch, were won over by the smart tongue.

"Why should we toil whilst those in cherubim will always enjoy the best fruits, despite all our earnest efforts?"

The devil told them of their deity's gravest weakness. When the dwellers of the surface are worshipping, the god will be wholly vulnerable, too intoxicated by the aromas of sacrifices and euphoria of prayers gushing forth. It is then the deity must be struck down. Only then will the angels have their freedom from this unjust tyrant. The naive angels shook hands with the devil and their fates were sealed.

When the eve of worship came, some held doubt in their hearts. But under the reassurance of the devil at their shoulder, they steeled their hearts. At the altar where their god partook of offerings, they burst forth from the heavenly curtain and thrust their weapons upon their creator deity.

The heavens seemed to tremble in the next moment as lightning flashed. They god cried in pain. They could wound the almighty. But their elation was instantly replaced by dread.

The deity flung the ichor at them, which turned black upon splashing on their skin and wings. The stuff suddenly turned their wings like lead, and they fell from heaven screaming. As they writhed, falling, their skin was charred and burned black from the air catching them afire. They fell down near a lake so hard that their residual craters drained the lake by nearly half. As they picked their broken forms up, they cried in pain at their predicament. They cried to the devil and why had he not assisted them. The sly creature materialized nearby with a wicked grin.

"Because, now you all may enjoy eternity down here with me!"

Society[edit]

Since their fall from grace, the angels have since become recluses. Their rejection by their deity rendered them very human-like, with the ability to reproduce, to desire, lust, covet, age and all nine yards. Their children will bear the marks of their betrayal and be born pitch black as they are. Their wings have since become unable to fly, only capable of being used for gliding at best. When people see their blackened skin, the curse instantly influences their mind to reject them, thus making these angels quite the outcasts.

The angels were wholly repentant and begged their deity to punish the devil which had misled them. Their pleas fell on deaf ears however and their imprisonment among mortals was final. Many came to reject the divine altogether while others desired to seek a salvation spell or redemption. Those who held negative emotions and sought retribution formed small traveling groups which sought to recruit others to their cause against the gods. They are belligerent towards other races which reject them, as they blame the devil wholly and see themselves only as victims.

Those who seek redemption are largely solitary and hermetic. Despite the harsh adversity against them, they retain hope to return to heaven and reconcile with their god. They often wander about and try to help whenever they can in times of disaster. More often than not, they end up being the ones in trouble even when they mean well.
