A vestige based on illithid lore.

Level: 8

Binding DC: 37

Special Requirement: Yes

Legend[edit]

Yth'yurgl was once a devout servant of the Astromundi flayer's god-mind, Lugribossk.  When Ilsensine attempted usurp the Astromundi and enslaved Lugribossk, Yyh'yurgl alone stood against the bitch-god even as she attempted to use her powers to rewrite history.  Unfortunately, Ilsensine eventually took notice of the upstart illithid, tore him to shreds, and hurled what was left of his mind into the depths of Pandemonium, where his remaining vestige grew mad with hatred and loathing until your summoning brought it back from the brink.

Manifestation[edit]

The sigil of Yth'yurgl appears to twist and curl like a cephalopod's tentacles.  When Yth'yugrl appears, only whispers of a distant, fading voice can be heard deep within your mind.

Sign[edit]

The flesh around your mouth becomes elongated and flappy, as if a failed attempt to grow tentacles occurred.

Special Requirements[edit]

Yth'yurgl will refuse to answer the call of anyone who has associated with a mindflayer or one of their agents in the last 24 hours but failed to attack them.

Influence[edit]

Yth'yugrl hates his fellow illithids with a seething passion, and servants of the god-mind Ilsensine even more so.  Whenever encountering a mindflayer or one of their agents, you feel a burning rage deep within you, coaxing you to attack first and ask questions never.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Yth'yurgl bestows you with a number of quasi-psionic traits.

Ectoplasmic Shield:  Your body becomes coated in an invisible field of ectoplasm that grants a deflection bonus to AC equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum +1).  This is a force effect that is equally effective against incorporeal attacks, and it negates magic missiles in the same way as the shield spell does.

Mind Blast:  You gain a mind blast usable once every 5 rounds.  It is a psionic-like attack that extends outward from you in a cone 60 feet long.  Anyone caught in this cone must succeed on a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 your effective binder level + your Charisma modifier) or be stunned for 1d4-1 rounds (minimum 1 round).

Natural Empath:  You gain an insight bonus to Sense Motive checks equal to one-half your effective binder level.  In addition to the normal benefits of Sense Motive skill checks, you can use such a check to detect the emotions of your subject as if you had cast empathy, save that this is treated as if it were an extraordinary ability.  You may also use psionic skills even if untrained, but you receive no additional bonus thereto.

Psychic Egg:  When you first bind with Yth'yurgl, he creates a psychic egg within you containing your soul.  If you die while so bound, you can instantly revive yourself as per the spell revivify.  However, when you are reborn through this psychic egg, Yth'yurgl demands payment for his protection over you.  You must make an immediate binding check against his binding DC.  If you fail, you immediately lose up to 5,000xp, though never enough to cause you to lose a level.  Once used, you cannot make use of another psychic egg for at least a week.

If you choose, you may instead allow your soul to be released from the egg without reviving you, allowing you to be resurrected normally.

If you expel Yth'yurgl without using your psychic egg, or he otherwise leaves you, your psychic egg hatches immediately, granting you the benefits of a heal spell as if cast by a cleric equal to your effective binder level.

Telepathy:  You gain the ability to communicate telepathically with creatures at a range of 10 feet per effective binder level.  If you already possess this power, its range is extended by one-half that amount or out to your existing range, whichever is greater.  You also gain the equivalence of the Mindsight feat (LoM) for as long as Yth'yurgl remains bound to you.
