The Relinquished (5e Race)

Their bodies are made of hard, shell-like material. In the center, each one has a hole, which sucks in creatures and assimilates them into the protective shield located behind its head. The shield can be lowered over the main body with the assimilated creature being stuck in the shield. Any creature stuck in the shield can attack and speak by the Relinquished's will. Their bodies are mostly blue, with hard white accents. Their hands have sharp claws, which can be used to slash as an unarmed strike. Their one eye bulges out from just above their hole. Instead of legs, Relinquished have what looks like a top sticking out of the bottom and sides of the assimilation hole. These enable a Relinquished to float gently above ground. When a creature is stuck in their shield, any pain or damage they would feel is first dealt to whatever creature they assimilated.
Very little history is known about the Relinquished. They have seemingly always existed, and are never known to be major contributors to society. The majority of people who meet a Relinquished becomes assimilated seconds later, unless they kill it. Ancient texts have been discovered that tell of a few ambitious relinquished, who have tried to conquer the world, but so far, they have ultimately failed.
The Relinquished are an extremely rare race that will never be found in forests. Instead, they lurk deep under highly protected places, lurking in dungeons under castles, or perhaps catacombs. All language aside from common is lost to them, unless they assimilate a creature that can speak another language. Even then, as soon as the creature is digested, they forget whatever language they could temporarily speak. The Relinquished are heartless beings that live only to satiate their hunger, and are not afraid to consume even the most powerful of foes.

The Relinquished Traits
Ability Score Increase. Your ability scores do not increase.
Age. Your average life span is roughly 300-400 years old , however, Assimilating creatures extend your life span by their remaining life span.
Alignment. The relinquished are soulless creatures, they are neutral but will align themselves with anything that fulfills their deep desires or duties.
Size. The Relinquished tend to weight roughly 300-400 pounds and are usually 5'7-6'3 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Rather than walking, Relinquished gently hover 1-2 feet above the ground. Your base floating speed is 30ft.
LIghtvision. You can see in conditions of bright or blinding light.You also gain immunity to dazzling and magical blindness. You however can still suffer blindness from physical trauma to your eye.
Horrid Origin. Your creature type is humanoid., aberration. and monstrosity. You can be affected by a game effect if it works on any of your creature types.
Assimilation. You can once per week assimilate a creature, the creature has to make a Wisdom saving throw which it has an advantage on unless that creature is affected by a conditions then it has a disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws. However, if the creature is asleep or unconscious then the creature is automatically assimilated into the Relinquished. Once assimilated, The Relinquished gains temporary non-recoverable hit points depending on the remaining hit points the creature had when assimilated, can also speak in their language fluently for one week, and obtains any .Whenever, the temporary hit points drop to zero, the assimilated creature within The Relinquished dies. After a week from the event of assimilating a creature, The Relinquished consumes it and loses all the benefits from the assimilation

When creating a Relinquished character, you can use the following table of traits, ideals, bonds and flaws to help flesh out your character. Use these tables in addition to or in place of your background's characteristics.
