Shattercoral Clan (5e Subrace)
From D&D Wiki
As much as dwarves tend to love the earth, digging deep into it to mine, and for some, make their home, they find the oceans an unknown and dangerous place. But denizens of the city of Ragnustad did not get the choice to avoid it. The dwarves sunk with the city, too deep to reach the surface without great risk, and were forced to adapt or die. The Shattercoral clan chose to adapt.
Shattercorals have abandoned their topside relatives' luxurious beards for slippery tentacles emerging from the chin and upper lip. Their skin is blueish grey, with black and brown speckles, and their eyes have widened to see the width and breadth of the depths. With lengthened arms and legs, they might resemble a mindflayer moreso than a topside dwarf, despite their sterner features.
Ragnustad was founded to honor the old goddess P'Tara'u, an eccentric deity of chaos. When the city sank, the Shattercorals were among the religious officials. They put their faith in their goddess, and she gave them what she knew best: discordance of the body and the mind. Over generations, the Shattercorals grew physically accustomed to the oceans, with slippery skin and tentacles, while their minds twisted with unknowable secrets.
