Pheonix-Born ONLY TEN LEVELS*[edit]

I, as the author of this page do not consent to edit anything on it.

A millennium ago, the first Pheonix-Born were created. When the Pheonix incinerated itself a curse laid on it by an unknown deity or demon lord caused it to scatter it's ashes instead of resurrecting as normal. Whether it was a backlash from an epic spell or purposefully done it's powers were transferred into an unborn human child. This became the first and true pheonix-born: Chaos Von Kreiger. After a thousands years of breeding, the powers of new generations have been diluted, though with perseverance and training, their ancestral powers can be unlocked.

  • This is a full class with only ten is not meant to have more.

Making a Pheonix-Born[edit]

Pheonix-Born work well in a group on the front or back lines dishing out damage or healing.

Abilities: The Pheonix-Born relies heavily on Strength for combat, also Dexterity for armor, and Constitution for health.

Races: Any, but usually human.

Alignment: Almost always good, but if their alignment changes to evil they lose healing flame and it is replaced by Soul-consuming fire(see below NPC relations).

Starting Gold: 4d4×10 (100) gp.

Starting Age: As fighter.

Class Features[edit]

Through much training, Pheonix-Born can access more and more of their ancestral powers. All of the following are class features of the Pheonix-Born.

Power Flare: Swift action, Hair and eyes change color to gold, ancestral tattoos appear on body. Enables use of other class features while active. You gain fire resistance equal to your class levels times two and fast healing equal to your class levels. But in exchange you gain vulnerability to cold and you take your class levels in subdual damage each round. This damage cannot be healed until you use cool off. (Power Flare on)

Cool Off: Free action cannot be used in the same turn as power flare. Hair and eyes return to normal colors, ancestral tattoos fade from body. Cannot use Pheonix-Born class features when Power Flare is off. (Power Flare off)

Flaming Fist: When unarmed and in light armor (or less), you may charge your fists with fire with a swift action. For one round your unarmed attacks deal 1d6/2 class levels extra fire damage. (You take 1 extra subdual damage per 2 class levels when you do this)(Requires Power Flare)

Healing Fire: (Good only)When unarmed and in light armor (or less), you may convert your fire to healing fire. For one round you may heal people by making unarmed attacks against them (You convert the fire for the entire round, you can't flip flop damage and healing). They are healed for any fire damage you (would) do and any physical damage damage you (would) do is reduced to zero. (Unless you want to damage them in some weird safe-sado-masochist way, or if you are punching zambees.) This healing is subject to fire resistance and immunity. (Requires Power Flare)

Soul Consuming Fire: (Evil only)You may inter-change this with normal flame just like it's opposite: healing fire. This is a truly dark flame, it's fire creates no light and is pitch black in color. It deals 1d6/3lvls extra Necrotic damage(you must heal this naturally, no magic will work) but in return the user takes their class levels in untyped damage.) (DM NOTE: You may feel inclined to make it so this fire and the fire from flaming fist are only subject to resistance instead of immunity, as the pheonix from which they draw their power is a primordial creature. Imjustsaiyan)

Pico Pico: When unarmed and in light armor (or less), a Pheonix-Born may swiftly throw attacks. Using a Swift action, for 1 round whenever you make an attack action or full attack action, the Pheonix-Born may make an extra attack at their highest attack bonus.(You must attack with your standard first) (DM NOTE: this is basically a free-ish attack in which they spend their swift action for after they attack with their standard, if you don't understand that then seek help.)

Fist Projection: When unarmed and in light armor (or less), Your unarmed attacks can be used as a ranged attack out to 30'. This attack deals only the fire damage/healing of Flaming Fist or healing fire. (A number of times a day equal to class levels)(Requires Power Flare)

Hand of Resurrection: By using your ancestral powers, you can bring a person back to life, as long as you have the body. By flaring your power to high levels, you can raise a person who has been dead less than a week. This is a 10 minute ritual, and they are returned at full health. After this you lose your Pheonix-Born Class Abilities for a number of hours equal to their ECL. You can regain your powers alternatively by resting for a number of hours equal to a quarter of their ECL. (Requires Power Flare) (DM NOTE: you may want to nerf this to once a week)

Rebirth: 20 days after you die, your body immolates, turning into a pile of ashes. At a point of your choice in the future, you appear in the womb of a family of your race struggling to have a child (As a fetus). Upon birth you retain all memories of your previous lives(you keep half your overall class levels). From there you will rapidly age until you are an adult(1 year a week, or month at DM discretion) (Does not require Power Flare)

Body of Flame: When you flare your power, your body becomes more like the body of your Pheonix ancestor. Once per round as an Immediate action, you may negate 1 physical attack against yourself, it passes harmlessly through your body (and armor and other gear, don't question it, it's supernatural). (Usable a number of times a day equal to your class levels)(Requires Power Flare)

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Pheonix-Borns are proficient with all simple weapons(Though they abhor anything that is not natural aka fists). They are proficient with light armor.

Playing a Pheonix-Born[edit]

Religion: Pheonix-Borns tend to follow religions dealing with fire or rebirth instinctively.

Other Classes: Pheonix-Borns don't strictly react to any specific class in the same manner, their interactions are based mostly on personality.

Combat: Typically Pheonix-Borns stand on the front lines dealing damage, and they can drop back and do some healing as necessary.

Advancement: Multi class into monk or any other melee. (DM NOTE treat this class as a monk for all monk prestige but use their fist projection in place of the "stunning fist" It makes for some interesting attacks.)

Pheonix-Borns in the World[edit]

"You poor, dumb bastard. If you play with fire... (flare up) you WILL be burned."
—Chaos Von Kreiger, Pheonix-Born

Pheonix-Born can easily fit into normal society, usually as monks, brawlers or nobles, with a penchant for fighting(due to their past lives). As long as they don't flare up, they are safe from pursuit. Once they are discovered, they may be tracked and captured by The Black Flame, who are trying to resurrect the Dark pheonix by capturing the essences stored in Pheonix-Borns.

Daily Life: A typical day of a Pheonix-Born is spent training in hand-to-hand combat. They like to relax around fires at the end of the night.

Notables: Chaos Von Kreiger, The ruler of the dark market and 11th demon lord.

Organizations: Pheonix-Born groups tend to be small and mostly anonymous to avoid the watchful eye of the black flame.

NPC Reactions: If it is unknown that they have supernatural powers (if they never use Power Flare) they are usually treated as militant types. Once they show their true colors(bad joke) they are seen as terrifying or awesome creatures. Sometimes knowledge of what they are brings shady characters around to attempt to steal their powers, or worse, try to subjugate them into servitude. They are usually cautious as they are hunted as a whole by a dark sect of pheonix borns known only as The Black Flame.

(DM NOTE: Treat the black flame pheonix borns as a regular pheonix born but with Soul consuming fire and the ability to resurrect themselves once a day when killed as per the spell Pheonix fire(complete divine) except with damage equaling their class levels in d6 damage and no other drawbacks.)

Pheonix-Born Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Knowledge (History) can research Pheonix-Borns to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge (History)
DC Result
5 When Pheonix-Borns Flare their Power, their eyes and hair change to gold, and golden tattoos appear on their bodies.
10 To use almost any of their supernatural abilities, a Pheonix-Born must flare their power. They are hunted by an unknown group.
15 Pheonix-Born healing is a sort of healing fire, it burns away infections, and cauterizes and cleans wounds, people who are resistant to fire are resistant to this healing. The group that hunts them is called the black flame.
20 Pheonix-Borns can reincarnate upon death, and the most powerful of them aren't affected by some physical attacks. They are killed for their power and sometimes coerced or subjugated to work for the black flame.
25 The black flame uses sleeper cells in cults and churches of fire, life, and death gods to gather information. They are only recognized by a small tattoo of a pheonix with at least one black feather.
30 It is said that the first pheonix born is the creator of the black flame and wishes to use them to resurrect the pheonix.
35 There is a rumor The Black flame wishes to resurrect a black pheonix in place of the original.
40 The one known as Chaos Von Kreiger is the first and true Pheonix born. His power is leagues past an average Pheonix-born, even to the point that a god would be compared to a mortal.
45 Chaos Von Kreiger is not the only true Pheonix born, he has a twin brother, Artix Von Kreiger Whose fate and life is tied with his brother. He has been held captive by Chaos to stop him from interfering as he, like his brother cannot be killed without instantly resurrecting.
50 The twin brother of Chaos is Artix Von Kreiger and he wishes to bring the true Pheonix back to life to help cleanse evil and plagues from the world. His Evil brother Chaos wishes for the end of the world by resurrecting the Dark Pheonix. For what the world has done over the millennia, war, death, pestilence and famine.

Pheonix borns in the Game[edit]

They are your neighbors, your brothers, your sisters, your kings and queens. They are Joe everyman, doing the same things you do, until the orcs come to pillage the village. Then in one quick display of light their power unfolds in the shape of tattoos and a faint red and gold aura, then they go to work for real.

Adaptation: Head monk of a monkery(or monastery if you wanna be like that...) A carnie fire magician that seems all too good at what he does. A noble that has an odd love for fire, almost like he feeds on it. They can be anyone at all, but they almost have a carnal need for fire in their lives.

Sample Encounter: Chaos Von Kreiger's White, Grey, and Black wings(If talked to they do not have names and would choose death than what chaos would do to them if he found out they talked. for example soul-pong: resurrect, killed, resurrect, killed....)

EL 5-8: Lord Chaos found out you were looking into the tale of the pheonix, using his information network of spell weavers(the creature in MM2) and invisible stalkers(the creature in MM1) and he decided you need to back off.

Simple, 3 White wings: level five PBs with ten alchemists fires(set-up in a 4x4 circle w/pressure plate trigger DC 20 spot/ disarm) ambush-bombing combo. Add Invisibility potions and more "bombs" to scale.

EL 10-13: Lord Chaos is displeased with what you have done to his messengers and found out you won't leave the legend alone, he decided you need to back off.

This one is easy, 5 Grey-wings: level 10 PBs(standard) with additional "help" from invisible stalkers and Spell weavers to scale.

EL 15-17: Lord Chaos found out you did not heed his warnings, using his information network of spell weavers(the creature in MM2) and invisible stalkers(the creature in MM1) and he decided to assassinate you.

Simple enough, seven Black-wings: level 15 npcs with 10 levels in pheonix-born and 5 levels in any base class.(This is standard) Add spellweavers and invisible stalkers to scale. But he never sends less than one Black wing per PC No stat block for you. Do it yourself.
