Broom Icon.svg.png This page needs grammatical help. Reason: There are capitalization errors of race names and overall spelling and grammar issues. Trait wording also needs fixing so they don't say something like "str/dex" and are more mechanically sound and less vague.

You can help D&D Wiki by improving the grammar on this page. When the grammar has been changed so that this template is no longer applicable please remove this template. If you do not understand the English language please leave comments on this page's talk page before making any edits.

Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: This race gets a lot at its base and gets additional things from its subraces. There is unconditional advantage that one subrace gets, and there is a fluff feature that scales into 18th level for some reason, to name a few issues.

You can help D&D Wiki by better balancing the mechanics of this page. When the mechanics have been changed so that this template is no longer applicable please remove this template. If you do not understand balance please leave comments on this page's talk page before making any edits.

Kumiho[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

At first glance, a kumiho is identical to a fox in every way, with the exception of long slender legs and angled bodies that rival the size of a large dog and most have 9 tails by the time they reach full adulthood. Their fur can come in different colors, but red with white tipped ears and tail is the most common coloration to be found aside from black tipped tail and ears or pure white fur. Their eyes illuminate with vibrant colors, making their iris have a faint glow in darkness.

Many kumiho like to travel in a humanoid form that displays their claws, ears, and tail(s). When a kumiho takes the form of a humanoid, they take the appearance of how their subconscious believes they would look as a human, but they always take the same appearance. They can also take a hybrid form, blending the appearance of their human and fox forms into an anthropomorphic fox.

Kumiho look very young for their actual age. One that is 100 years of age might look like a teenager. Around 150 years, their appearance halts around a human’s mid 20's until they reach 800 years. In the course of those final two centuries, they begin to age into late adulthood and finally their senior years prior to dying of old age.

History[edit]

Kumiho have roots among the fey as a race of mystical foxes incarnated from the souls of children who die at a young age. They often remain in the feywilds of their birth but the rare kumiho will venture out to see the worlds, hiding their true nature from curious eyes as they use fey magic to shift into a human form.

Society[edit]

Kumiho are widely believed to be a myth or thought to be the ancestors of Kitsune. Many scholars believe that Kumiho blood has powerful magic properties worth exploiting. When discovered, Kumiho will often claim they are a typical kitsune with a genetic mutation to have multiple tails. As Kumiho are often attractive and easy on the eyes, they are typically well liked in social interactions, except their hybrid form is usually unsettling to others.
