Holy Mage[edit]

As the faithful grow in number, they look to Paladins to protect not only them, but their beliefs as well. Certain Orders take it upon themselves to intensify and diversify the training of recruits as to better handle the constant threat of evil. One such path for a Paladin to take is that of the Holy Mage; one who studies the higher mysteries of magic and swears his abilities to the service of his chosen deity.

Making a Holy Mage[edit]

Holy Mages work well with most races and classes. They may have trouble with people who belittle faith in general, or who follow a deity in opposition to their own.

Abilities: Being a Mage, the most important attribute should be Wisdom. Secondly,Holy Mages are trained in light and medium armor, meaning that Constitution would also be important. Holy Mages can also make for superb diplomats with above average charisma.

Races: Most civilized races have the potential to become Holy Mages, although humans and elves make up a majority.

Alignment: Lawful Good

Starting Gold: Same as Paladin.

Starting Age: Simple.

Table: The Holy Mage

Class Features[edit]

Godsend: Through service and dedication, the Holy Mage gains the ability to dual cast his spells. This ability is bestowed to him by his chosen deity and as such requires the Paladin to pray to the deiety at least once a day to remain in effect. When dual casting, The Holy Mage choose between two different spells, or he may use the 2 of the same spell to amplify it's effects. Smite Evil: The Smite Evil effect only works for the Holy Mage's spells.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Holy Mages are trained in both light and medium armor. Holy Mages are proficient in all simple and martial weapons. In addition, once a Holy Mage passes his initiation, he is given a Magic Staff. This staff has a blue crystal on the top that can be used to cast the Light spell. The Staff also has a spear point on the opposite end and can be used as a spear in combat.

Spells: Holy Mages can cast all spells within their deity's alignment.

Ex-Holy Mages[edit]

A Holy Mage who ceases to be lawful good, who willfully commits an evil act, or who grossly violates the code of conduct loses all paladin (Holy Mage) spells and abilities (not weapon, armor, and shield proficiencies). He may not progress any farther in levels as a Holy Mage. He regains his abilities and advancement potential if he atones for his violations (see the atonement spell description), as appropriate. Like a member of any other class, a Holy Mage may be a multiclass character, but multiclass Holy Mages, like paladins, face a special restriction. A Holy Mage who gains a level in any class other than Holy Mage may never again raise his Holy Mage level, though he retains all his Holy Mage abilities.
