Composite Psyche[edit]

Rarely, multiple distinct psyches are forced to occupy a single body; this may happen due to magic, or due to an experience so incredibly traumatic it literally shatters the individual's psyche, and each fragment of the shattered psyche assumes a different, distinct personality.

This condition is notably distinct from Dissociative identity disorder, aka Split Personality, because the individual psyches are each distinct; the best way to describe this condition is multiple distinct minds that occupy the same body. The presence of multiple minds in the same body boosts the Composite Psyche's mental abilities. Though only a single psyche can control the body at any given time, they are all aware of the body and can alternate the control over it between each other if the circumstances so require.

Creating a Composite Psyche[edit]

Composite Psyche is an acquired template which can be applied on any sentient creature (i.e. any creature with Intelligence score of 3 or more). A Composite Psyche uses all the base creature's statistics, abilities and special abilities, except as noted here.

Special Qualities: A Composite Psyche retains all the special qualities of the base creature, and receives those described below:

Enhanced Brain Activity: Having multiple minds in one body, Composite Psyches can process information much quicker and more efficiently than any ordinary person. They gain an additional skill point per level per 3 psyches (including the original).

Enhanced Memory: Composite Psyches gain an additional +2 bonus on all Knowledge checks as well as on Will saves against memory-altering effects.

Multiple Minds: At least one of a Composite Psyche's psyches is always on guard at any given time. They retain their Dexterity bonus to AC even if they are caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker, unless they also happen to be immobilized. They also cannot be flanked.

Combined Knowledge: All the knowledge of each psyche is known to them all. Thus, they share their knowledge about languages, skills and even events they have experienced.

Abilities: A Composite Psyche's different psyches can and may have different mental ability scores; regardless, the Composite Psyche (i.e. all psyches) also gain an additional +1 bonus to Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma per 3 psyches (including the original).

Skills: Composite Psyches receive an additional +1 bonus per 3 psyches (including the original) on Bluff, Listen, Search, Sense Motive, and Spot checks. See Combined Knowledge.

Feats: Composite Psyches gain Endurance, Iron Will and Lightning Reflexes, if they don't already have them. If they do, they can choose another feat whose prerequisites they meet, instead.

Challenge Rating: The base creature's CR +1 per 10 psyches (excluding the original).

Alignment: Any: a Composite Psyche's different psyches may have different moral alignments.

Advancement: By character class or HD, whichever is appropriate.

Level Adjustment: +1 per 5 psyches (excluding the original).
