Gloura (5e Race)

Gloura
As a new moon rises overhead, tens of winged figures emerge from the shadows and fly into the skies, dancing and singing under the moonlight. The song and laughter and merriment can be heard long into the night, but as the sun rises over the horizon, it fades, and by the time the rest of the world wakes, they're gone without a trace.
A knight carries his wounded partner to a shrine deep within an Underdark grotto. Though he cannot see anyone, he feels the eyes of many watching him from the shadows. He places the body at the shrine, along with a small offering of herbs and flowers, then turns his back and leaves once more. With any luck, the residents of the grotto will take pity on them, and by the time he returns his friend will be healed.
Physical Description
A Gloura, as depicted on the Forgotten Realms Wiki |
The Gloura; also known as Glouras, or Unicorns of the Deep, were delicate and intelligent humanoid fey with silvery skin and moth-like wings and antennae. They used these wings to fly at incredible speeds, being twice as fast in the air than they were on foot. They had large eyes, with no pupils or irises, though their sclera came in a variety of colours.
When Gloura flew, their shimmering wings made droning noises that many described as beautiful. If one listened for too long, they would become entranced by the song, and follow the fey wherever they went.
History and Society
The Gloura have always been extremely secretive and solitary creatures, and much of their history is unknown to rest of the world. The majority of Gloura were good-natured, and believed in nurturing others, and helping wherever it was needed. However though most were kind, there was of course the outlier population of more devious and cruel Gloura, who used their charm and skill to gather wealth.
Gloura sung and laughed more than they spoke, and tended to be very musical creatures, carrying their instruments with them wherever they went. They also didn't often distinguish between sentient and non-sentient creatures, so could often be found speaking with plants and animals.
Though most Gloura were solitary, a group of triplets owned a fest hall in the Underdark city of Sshamath.
Many dwellers of the Underdark respected the Gloura, and some would even erect shrines for them, where they would leave food and other offerings for them. Sometimes people would leave their dying or wounded loved ones at these shrines, in hopes the Gloura would help them.
Gloura are very solitary and self-sufficient, rarely forming groups. However, on nights of a full or new moon, they would come together to dance in the moonlight, and seek out members of the Unseelie Court. On these nights, they would dance and frolic until the sun rose once again, when they would return to their Underdark homes.
Gloura's shimmering wings were highly valued for, mainly for decorative purposes. Their wings sold for up to 400 gold pieces each.
