Wondrous Item (Doll), Legendary
A Cursed Victorian Doll appears to be a simple doll constructed out of standard bisque porcelain and painted to resemble a young female, complete with simple cotton garments consistent with Victorian Style Garb. Its strange effects only seem to effect humanoid females. The area around the doll will become altered with the environment, decor, ambient temperature, and furnishings become altered to be more attractive to a prepubescent human female. Tables will be set with a pink tea set with a teapot filled with a sweet red liquid, various sweet treats will manifest, and the table cover will become a lace tablecloth of a style popular during a Victorian Style. Accounts has shown that items removed from this region of altered reality retain their altered properties and food items created are non-toxic and will decay at the same rate as normal items of the same type. If a female comes into contact with the doll, they must make a DC 16 Wisdom Saving Throw. On a success, nothing happens and they must repeat the saving throw if they are still in contact with the doll in 1 minute. On a failure, they will enter into a trance-like state, fixated on the doll. After a few seconds, their hands will lock around the doll. Their body then begins to painfully shrink and transform into a simple household object, common of the Victorian style. After a few seconds, they will be permanently transformed, which can only be reverted through a wish spell. The doll may choose for a target that it deems worthy to go under a slightly different transformation. But it is not known how it chooses its targets or why. When this female comes into contact with the doll, they must also make a DC 16 Wisdom Saving Throw. On a success, nothing happens and they must repeat the saving throw if they are still in contact with the doll in 1 minute. On a failure, they will enter into a trance-like state, fixated on the doll. The female will appear to feel joy and embrace the doll. Over the next few seconds, the target will begin to shrink. They will regress both physical and mentally to the state of an 8-year old child, with no recollection of their previous life. They will then be focused solely on playing with and taking care of the doll. The target will still age while still maintaining their mentality and appearance. If the target dies of natural or unnatural means, their body will revert to what it would have looked like at that time. Even while the doll is in the girl's possession, if a female comes into contact with the doll, they will undergo the transformation into a simple household object, common of the Victorian style. When the child feels threatened, they may be able to take on the dolls transformative properties, transforming whoever is in contact, despite their gender. This change is permanent and can only be reverted through a wish spell. (The following passage is an excerpt from the research notes of Edor Avaris, a researcher and magical expert working at the Arcane Identification Agency (A.I.A.): Magical Item Branch. AIA is responsible for identifying and recording unknown magical creatures and objects for public knowledge.) The Agency came to discover the doll (now identified as Object-2262) when we were called to investigate a house with a dead body which seemed to exude strange magical properties. Agents found the home changed entirely. Records show that is was originally built as a simple farmhouse, but it has changed to a Victorian style two story dwelling with a steeply pitched roof, wide front porch and a turret style gable on the front corner. All internal furnishings had been altered and featured sofas, paintings and other items consistent with Victorian style homes. In the upstairs bedroom agents discovered the body of an Eighty or so year old female woman. After closer examination, it was determined that she died of natural causes. Interviews with neighbors revealed that the occupant of the house had been an 11-year-old child. Statements indicate that the neighbors did not find anything unusual about a child living alone in the house. Research into possible memetic effects from Object-2262 are still pending. During the investigation, one of the agents became a casualty during the recovery process when she apparently removed Object-2262 from the grip of the victim. Agents state that they heard a scream from the upstairs bedroom and subsequently found an oil portrait of the agent dressed in Victorian style clothing with doll on the floor next to it. Male agents were able to handle the doll with no ill effects. The Doll was placed into containment and a human female subject (who will be referred to as Subject-2262-1) was brought in from one of the mental institutions in the area to see how the Doll would respond. She had been committed to life in a Mental Hospital after a psychiatric evaluation determined that she was mentally incompetent to stand trial. Object-2262-1 has been in a persistent catatonic state since her arrest. Test went as follows: Test Log. 10:32 AM - Object-2262 is placed in Subject-2262-1's hands. 10:33 AM - Subject-2262-1 stirs and looks down at Object-2262. 10:34 AM - Subject-2262-1 begins stroking the hair of Object-2262. 10:39:15 AM - Subject-2262-1 screams. 10:39:20 AM - Subject-2262-1's hands lock around Object-2262. 10:40:02 AM - Subject-2262-1 begins shrinking in size. 10:40:10 AM - Subject-2262-1's skin hardens into white porcelain and her clothing changed to clothing typical of of the Victorian era. 10:40:30 AM - Subject-2262-1 has been transformed into a doll similar in size and clothing to Object-2262's. Testing has shown that Subject-2262-1 exhibits no magical properties. Researchers located a second suitable subject (here now referred to as Subject-2262-2). The subject was a 19-year-old female Half-Elf convicted of brutally stabbing a man while working at a brothel. Test Log 2. 11:36 AM - Object-2262 is placed in Subject-2262-2's hands. 11:37 AM - Subject-2262-2 looks down at and examines Object-2262. 11:37 AM - Subject-2262-2 exclaims: "What the (*****) is this?" 11:37:30 AM - Subject-2262-2's hands grip Object-2262. 11:37:35 AM - Subject-2262-2 screams. 11:37:36 AM - Subject-2262-2 begins to shrink. 11:37:37 AM - Subject-2262-2's hands and arms curving upward and fusing together into a solid handle while the legs draw up into the torso. Her skin turned white and featureless and her chest and torso bloated as a small nozzle grew from her side. 11:37:49 AM - Subject-2262-2 has been replaced by a fine china teapot. A third female subject was brought in for testing. This subject, designated Subject-2262-3 is a 20-year-old female Human who was incarcerated for burning down a temple following her refusing to worship the deity when her parents tried to bring her in. Test went as follows: Test Log 3. 2:20 PM - Object-2262 is placed in Subject-2262-3's hands. 2:20 PM - Subject-2262-3 throws Object-2262 to the floor. 2:21 PM - Object-2262 is placed back in Subject-2262-3's hands. 2:21 PM - Subject-2262-3 looks down at Object-2262. 2:22:12 PM - Subject-2262-3 smiles at Object-2262. 2:22:20 PM - Subject-2262-3 nods at Object-2262. 2:23:15 PM - Subject-2262-3 hugs Object-2262. 2:23:20 PM - Subject-2262-3 begins to shrink. 2:24 PM - Subject-2262-3 regresses to an 8-year-old child. Showing extremely rapid regression from her current age to the appearance and mentality of an 8-year-old girl. Her cloths shrunk to fit her new form and have the appearance of typical female child Victorian style garb. It is unknown why the doll decided to transform this female into an eight-year old girl instead of a household object. Subject-2262-3 went on to stay with Object-2262 in its containment cell and would play and take care of it. The subject seems to have no recollection of her previous life. She was provided with a bed, a bookshelf with some children's books, a small table with four chairs, a teapot and a set of teacups, a dresser, and a dressing table with a mirror built for a child. A new female subject was brought in for further testing. This subject, who from here on out will be referred to as Subject-2262-3-1 is a 31-year old female Halfling incarcerated after a botched attempt at robing a caravan, killing one of the merchants in the process. Subject was directed to take the doll from Object-2262-3. Test went as follows: Test Log 4. 11:18:12 AM - Subject-2262-3-1 enters containment chamber. 11:18:22 AM - Subject-2262-3-1 grabs Object-2262 and takes its from Subject-2262-3. 11:18:24 AM - Subject-2262-3-1's hands grip Object-2262 tightly. 11:18:29 AM - Subject-2262-3-1 screams 11:18:30 AM -Subject-2262-3-1 begins to shrink 11:18:31 AM - Subject-2262-3-1's head and neck stretch upwards, turning to rubber and loosing all facial features as the neck turns to gold with a nozzle beginning to extend from the center of the neck. Their arms and legs retract into their body as their torso increases in width and length and turns to glass lined with silver and gold. The insides appear to melt into a strange liquid-like substance. 11:18:41 AM - Subject-2262-3-1 is fully transformed into a simple Victorian style glass perfume sprayer filled with a sweet smelling perfume. 11:18:45 AM - Subject-2262-3 retrieves Object-2262. She then places the perfume sprayer on one of her tables before beginning to groom Object-2262's hair. Later, we sent in one of our male researchers, who from here on out will be referred to as Subject-2262-3-2, to interview Subject-2262-3. The interview goes as follows: Interview Log 1. 2:37:10 - Subject-2262-3-2: "May I sit down". 2:37:14 - Subject-2262-3: "Sure if you want to." 2:37:17 - Subject-2262-3-2: "OK then. Lets get started. What is your name?" 2:37:25 - Subject-2262-3: "I think I may have had a name before I met my Dollie, but I don't care about names anymore. Me an Dollie are such good friends that we don't even need to use names." 2:37:31 - Subject-2262-3-2: "What do you remember before meeting "Dollie"." 2:37:34 - Subject-2262-3: "No. I'm bored. Me and Dollie are going to have a tea-party, do you want to join. 2:37:39 - Subject-2262-3-2: "I'm sorry, we can't do that right now, may we please finish the interview." 2:37:42 - Subject-2262-3: (Crosses her arms and pouts) 2:37:47 - Subject-2262-3-2: "Hey" 2:37:48 - Subject-2262-3: (does not respond, continues to pout) 2:37:51 - Subject-2262-3-2: "Hello? Are you listening?" (Anger can now be heard in his voice.) 2:37:53 - Subject-2262-3: "No!" 2:37:55 - Subject-2262-3-2: "Can we please finish the interview." (sounding even more irritated) 2:37:59 - Subject-2262-3: "I don't wanna! Me and my Dollie are leaving! All of you people are so mean!" (Begins to get up and leave) 2:38:03 - Subject-2262-3-2: "Sit back down young lady!" (forcefully grabs the little girl's arm.) 2:38:06 - Subject-2262-3: Screams out and yells "Let go of me!" 2:38:08 - Subject-2262-3-2 hand's grip around the girl tightly. 2:38:11 - Subject-2262-3-2 screams. 2:38:12 - Subject-2262-3-2 begin to shrink. 2:38:13 - Subject-2262-3-2's arms become fused to the sides of his body and his legs merge together as his entire body begins to flatten. He skin hardens into silver and his mouth opens up revealing a smooth mirror-like surface. His mouth grows to natural proportions, taking up the whole front of his face while the rest of his head was pushed behind it. 2:38:24 - Subject-2262-3-2 finishes his transformation into a silver Victorian style handheld mirror. 2:38:29 - Subject-2262-3 picks up the mirror and observes her reflection before setting it down on a table. No more instances have occurred past this point. The Doll was permitted to stay in Subject-2262-3's possession and has remained in containment for public safety. The only time anyone would enter the chamber is when one of our male researcher would drop of food. At all times, at least two researchers would be stationed to keep watch on Subject-2262-3. All items created by Object-2262 and Subject-2262-3 are kept inside the containment cell. No cure has been identified in which to return the victims of these transformations back to normal. We are still at a loss has to how Object-2262 came to be and if there are others dolls like it out around the world. (End of Document) |
